The Evolution of a Game
Yes, there is cousincest. Deal with it.
Stay quiet.
It was a game they played, that evolved as they grew up.
At first, it was simply James and Rose hiding in any place they could and staying silent when someone passed. They played it every time their families met up. Neither denied how exhilarating it was for their younger selves to hide in a cupboard after hours and stifle giggles as they tried to even their breathing.
Once James turned eleven, their opportunities to play the game decreased. It wasn't as fun to play it separately, so they made the most out of those few times that James visited.
It seemed like decades until Rose turned eleven, and it was her time to go to Hogwarts. By then he had come up with manyplaces to hide from Filch and the patrolling prefects or teachers. He hadn't tried most of them out as he would rather with Rose.
In the blink of an eye, they were fifteen and seventeen years old. James was on the verge of leaving, and, with his N.E.W.T.s and Rose's O.W.L.s both approaching, they had seen each other too little that year.
During a particularly rainy day, the pair had decided to take a break from revising and studying and working to play their game. They had about four months until James left, and their time together was running out.
So, with the practiced sneakiness of someone who'd been at it for years, they found their way to a dusty closet in an empty classroom on the fifth floor. Apparently, the dungeons and the two upper floors were the least patrolled – where was the fun in that?
They slid into the closet, shutting the doors with a weak thud, and it was then they realised they were too big for it. There wasn't too much of a height difference between the two; both of them being somewhat tall.
"Rose," James whispered.
His cool breath gave her goose bumps and, quite shakily, she responded with a tentative; "Yes?"
"Look at me." It wasn't a forceful command, but she snapped her head towards him so they were facing each other. And with a confidence he pretended to possess, he pulled her closer to him than she was and connected his lips to hers.
She reciprocated with a rising urgency, as if this was her only chance to concrete this new relationship they had. It was as if all those little forbidden thoughts they'd had of each other were let out to play. Their kiss became more passionate, and she couldn't help but tangle her fingers in his halfway decent hair. They stopped breathing for a few seconds as they neglected to separate, but the lack of air soon became too much.
Ever the voice of reason, she breathed; "This is wrong. We're cousins."
But all he did was reclaim her lips with his own and her lingering doubts disappeared. This feeling had to be right.
After that, they found they enjoyed their little game much more than before.
