Memory
Bella and Edward were sprawled across the Cullen's family room floor.
"We only have two weeks before graduation. Is all this homework really necessary?" I sighed frustratedly.
Edward smiled ruefully. "Sorry about that, love. I can do it for you if you like."
"No, I'll do it. I'm just gonna grab a snack." I got up and walked into the pristine kitchen. I opened the refrigerator, but all it had was a tray of ice cubes and a plastic baggie full of celery. "Yuck!" I thought to myself. Then, out loud I said, "Edward, your kitchen is desperately empty. Can we take a break and go grocery shopping?" Since the rest of the family was away hunting, I was comfortable using the word 'shopping'.
Well, most of the family anyway. Emmett overheard my request and came bounding down the stairs.
"I'll go to Walmart with you, Bella! I love that place!" He looked at Edward with a pleading expression.
I will not lose her, harm her, allow her to drive, or allow her to have any fun whatsoever! Deal? Edward chuckled slightly, nodded, and stood up. He walked over to me, looked me in the eye and said, "Don't hurt yourself." I rolled my eyes, gave him a quick peck on the lips and left.
We walked out to the garage (Well, I walked. Emmett practically skipped), and I made to climb into my faithful red truck. My companion, however, let out a booming laugh.
"No, silly, we can't take that!" he said. Then, he lifted me into his Jeep, which was roughly the size of an elephant, where I held on for dear life.
Five minutes later, we fishtailed into the Walmart parking lot, taking up two spaces. I would never ever complain about Edward's driving again! Emmett not only sped, he swerved all over the place and ran at least three red lights.
"Emmett, might I remind you that I'm not immortal yet??" I said shakily, hopping down from the vehicle. He grinned and zipped away towards the store. I followed him into the large building. The doors swished open and a bubblegum-snapping, magazine-reading girl in a red vest droned "Welcome to Walmart" without even looking up.
"Hey Lauren," I said with a smirk. She whipped her head up from the article she was reading (Want Thinner Thighs? Try This!).
"Bella! Just so you know, I'm only working here because my parents forced me. So don't tell anyone, please!"
I smirked again. "Whatever, Lauren. See you later."
I got my shopping done quickly and I was standing in line at the cash register when Emmett suddenly popped up at my side. He had basket full of random stuff, including, a Tide-to-Go pen, a few video games, some cat toys, and two boxes of sleeping pills.
"Emmett, you don't need any of these things," I couldn't help pointing out. "Honestly, I feel like I'm with Alice!"
He looked hurt. "But I do need this stuff! Do you know how hard it is to get blood out of your favorite shirt when you are miles away from a washing machine? And I haven't slept in decades! I need my rest, Bella!" I decided not to continue this pointless argument. Instead, I shook my head and walked back to the car.
-30 years later-
I smiled at the memory. Oh, Emmett…….
