"We're bringing in some help on this one," the Director announced and nodded toward her office door, which opened.

"Not again," Tony muttered.

"DiNutso," Fornell greeted. He turned to Gibbs. "Jethro."

Gibbs attempted to hide a smirk. "Tobias."

Jen was less successful in her attempt to mask her amusement. The laughter was evident in her voice as she said, "NCIS has assured the FBI we will offer full cooperation to Agent Fornell."

Tony continued to grumble as Gibbs said, "Of course. DiNozzo!"

Tony came to attention. "Yeah, Boss."

Gibbs kept his eyes on Fornell. "Go help McGee and Ziva. Make sure they're not getting themselves into trouble. I'll deal with Fornell."

Tony nodded. "Right, Boss." He left the room.

As the door closed behind Tony, Jen opened her mouth again. "You really think they believe you two hate each other? It's a pretty pathetic cover, Jethro."

Gibbs smirked. "Did I ever say I liked this bastard?"

Fornell chuckled. "Look who's talking."

Jen smiled, enjoying their banter. "Alright, point taken. Now get out of here, before Tony calls me with questions." She made a shooing motion and the men left her office, still grinning.

"Where to now, Jethro?" Fornell asked once they were on the balcony.

Gibbs looked down at the squadroom, where his team quickly made themselves appear busy. He shook his head at their antics. "MTAC."

Fornell nodded, following Gibbs to the secure room. They scanned themselves in and settled in to watch footage from across the country.

"Jen's right, you know," Fornell spoke up. Gibbs turned to him and he continued. "Our cover's gonna be blown eventually. Your team is smart. They'll see what's going on."

Gibbs let out an aggravated breath. "We can't just come out and say it, Tobias."

Suddenly, Fornell's eyes registered anger. "Oh, is that how it goes? I'm okay when you're pretending you hate my guts, but the idea that people could know that's not true is ridiculous? I'll tell you what, Jethro." He stood. "You're ridiculous." He stalked to the door.

Gibbs sighed loudly and rose to follow him. "Come on. You're being dramatic," he said once he reached him.

Fornell turned and Gibbs could see tears forming in his eyes. "Am I? Am I really? We'll see how dramatic I'm being when you're sleeping on the couch tonight! Or under your damn boat! You spend more time with her than me, anyway!" He huffed and turned away again, arms folded over his chest.

"Goddamnit, Tobias, now is not the time or place for this," Gibbs whispered fervently. He spun Fornell to face him again. "How do you think I'm supposed to explain to my team that you stole my ex-wife – and my heart?"

Fornell rolled his eyes but couldn't keep the smile from his face. "You have a point, Jethro."

"So we're good?" Gibbs asked softly.

Fornell nodded. "Yeah. And who knows, maybe tonight we can figure out a way to use that boat of yours to both our advantage."

Gibbs smirked. "I think I can live with that. But now, we have a cover to maintain."

Fornell cleared his throat and straightened his tie. "Of course." Gibbs opened the door and they exited. "Bastard." Gibbs grinned, closing the door behind them.

Neither one of them had noticed the woman sitting and watching their exchange. Cynthia picked up her phone and pressed a button. "Director? I did as you asked. Your suspicions were correct. Operation Gornell is now closed."

THE END!!
