Around the Floor

Ginny couldn't have been any happier if she wanted to be. She was in the arms of Neville at the ewell ball. Neville had shyly asked her about a month ago, so she had had time to go to Madam Malcons and with Harry's help, purchase new dress robes.
They were made of a fine silk, with emeralds imbedded in it. The silk itself was a deep red color, and fell perfectly on her, accentuating her curves in the right places. Even though she was only thirteen, she had begun to fill out quite nicely.
She had to admit, since she couldn't have Harry, Neville was the best choice. He liked her back, and was kind and gentle with her. Looking around the Great Hall, she spotted the triwizard cupples dancing. Crum and Hermione, Flur and Rodger, Cedric and Cho, and Harry and Ron. The relationship between Harry and her brother had been a bit unexpected, but they had known about Ron for years. Reflecting back, Ginny wondered if it was really all that unexpected after all. They had been the first family to take him in, and Ron had been his first friend, and the only one besides Hermione who didn't stare or whisper behind his back. She supposed it was a little awkward, but who was she to judge?
"Would you like to dance?" Neville asked her as the next song started. It was a slow song called, "When Wands Collide" by the Weird Sisters. She gratefully accepted and he swept her out onto the dance floor, gracefully twirling her around and dipping. He was a much better dancer than anyone would have thought. "Where did you learn to dance?" she asked him.
"It came naturally to me. Only thing that did, but at least it's something i guess."
"Your amazing."
"Ginny..."
"Yes?"
"Er... um... well, you see... i was just wondering if... er... if you... er... want to... i mean, if you don't want to, that's ok too but... um... wouldyoubemy... girlfriend?"
Laughing a little, she looked up into his eyes. "Neville, did you just ask me out?"
"No, never mind. Forget it happened. I'm sorry gin."
"No, I would love to be your girlfriend. I've been waiting for you to ask. I've liked you ever since... well, last year, after you helped me with my herbology homework. Your a lot smarter than anyone thinks Neville, and your cute and brave, and you have a good heart. Honestly Neville, i... well, i..." Her voice trailed off wondering how to say what was on her mind.
"What is it... is something wrong?"
"Not really, but you'll think i'm one of those girls who just says it but doesn't mean it... you'll think i'm..."
"Sssh Gin. just tell me. I promise i won't judge you."
"Well, Neville, I love you." did she really say that? What was she thinking! Now he would hate her! He just looked at her and smiled. "I love you too Gin. Your amazing, and beautiful and smart and the bravest girl i know. I'm glad you said yes."
"So am i. Thank you Neville."
He leaned down slightly, tilting his head. She reached up on her tiptoes and their lips met sofftly. It sent shivers through her body. Her eyes closed as she felt his lips moving against hers. They broke apart and smiled at each other, both knowing their lives had changed forever. this time, it was for the good of both of them.
