Chapter 1: A Challenge for the Tomb Robber
The moon was up high in the Egyptian night sky and the stars were brightly shining down on the dark colored sand. The light was gently coming in all the palace windows and most everyone was sound asleep, except for, of course, the night watch guards. It had been peaceful in Egypt for the first time in months, but not all was as well as it should have been. Somewhere deep in the palace away from the watchful eye of the night guards, a figure sneaked through the halls. He was a dark, rather grungy, young man, who knew the palace well, and had only two things on his mind, treasure and revenge.
Bakura grinned in the dark to himself, it was not the best night to be trying to sneak around, but he would make due. He wanted the Pharaoh's Millennium Item, but treasure and chaos would have to do for now. He had plundered the palace before but the Pharaoh had wised up, and moved the treasure from its all-to-familiar spot. Bakura had always slipped through the Pharaoh's hands escaping at the last moment. The tomb robber loved a challenge.
He waited until the guards ahead of him had walked on, held his breath, and quickly slipped into the next hallway. Bakura looked around; this hallway was not so familiar to him. He walked down it casually, but stayed close to the walls and kept up his guard.
The hallway was vast and barely any light came through from the bright moon. There were a few doors all easily opened, cracked, or broken. It looked like no one had been down this hallway in a few years. Bakura walked swiftly down the hallway until he came upon a more familiar hall, closer to the throne room. Suddenly he heard voices behind him. Bakura cursed quietly to himself and quickly ran across the hall to the first door. This door was fancier than most and harder to get open. Bakura pulled a knife out of his pocket and quickly started fumbling with the lock in the door. The voices were getting closer and Bakura quickened his pace.
No one would ever catch Bakura, it was against his code. He was always seen when he wanted to be seen, end of story.
The voices got closer as he heard the lock snap open. Bakura breathed a sigh of relief and quickly slipped into the room and shut the door behind him, locking it.
