Just a little something to keep my head from bursting. Includes Misty, so read 'Darkened Waters' first if you haven't read it yet.
Misty sat down on a tree branch, her legs dangling off the edge. The full moon had just rose over a warm July night without a cloud in the sky. It should've been nice, but Misty wasn't caring. Acionna had gone to what she had called a 'wind spirit's convention of death' and Jack was somewhere in Tibet doing something with a rouge avalanche. She was completely alone.
The wind blew her hair around and she sighed. Being alone was something that she liked to an extent, but it was getting tiresome. The memories of the nights with her family surfaced. A warm fire blazed in the fire place while she and Jack sat on the floor with their two little sisters between them. Now, it was just Jack and herself.
Figuring that she should be doing something, she flew into Burgess, trying to find something to do besides sit around feeling sorry for herself. Flying past a house, she spotted a mother with earth colored hair rocking a little girl to sleep. As she rocked, Misty heard the mother sing her daughter a lullaby.
Sleep my sweet child, you have nothing to fear
The Guardians will keep you in their care, my dear.
Even though you make think you are alone
They will make sure to guide you safely home.
The Sandman makes sure your dreams will stay sweet
The Tooth Fairy will always your memories wide awake.
The Easter Bunny gives hope to you as you go to bed
Santa makes sure that wonder never leaves your pretty little head.
Jack Frost fills up your life with a great gift of fun
And Mist Fog makes sure you share your ideas with everyone.
So sleep my sweet child now, for they'll take care of you
The Man in the Moon has promised me, and he always makes sure his promises, come true.
The mother set her child down in the crib, turning on the nightlight right by her bed. Misty couldn't help but smile as she watched the sleeping child. It reminded her a lot of when she got tucked into bed by her mother. Flying through the open window, Misty brushed her hand against the child's cheek. The baby smiled and slipped into sleep.
"Don't worry little one. I'll keep you safe tonight," Misty whispered to the little girl. Her earthen hair felt soft on Misty's hands.
"Thank you," the mother said. Misty turned to the woman in shock. She could see her? Misty expected children and a few teens, but never an adult. The woman smiled and pointed to the glowing moon outside the window.
"MiM gave me a great gift. I try and use it as best as I can," she said. Misty nodded in understanding. So this was one of the famous Seers, the only humans that could see a spirit, regardless of belief or not. Misty turned back to the child, watching her sleeping form.
"Thank you for including me in your song. Don't worry about her ma'am. Like you said, she's in the Guardian's care now," Misty said. the woman smiled and turned to go.
"Wait. What's your name?" Misty asked. The woman stopped, a ghost of a smile on her face.
"I was named for an ancestor of mine. My name is Madalyn, but everyone calls me Misty," she said as she walked out the door. Misty floated there in half shock as she looked at the child. The recognizable shape of her family's nose came into view. A faint smile appeared on her face.
It seems that she and Jack weren't as alone as they thought.
This is a one shot. Do not expect me to elaborate on this. Thank you, and review as you see fit.
