Kinda wanted to try this out... I heard PTX's cover of "Say Something" and it was the most amazing thing ever and it lead my thoughts to this. So... please read it since you opened the story and tell me what you think! Oh yeah, CHALANT ALL THE WAY! They're my otp and I just love Zatanna and Nightwing so much.
I don't own Young Justice or the characters or the song... which really sucks.
Say something I'm giving up on you.
Nightwing ran over to Zatanna's bleeding body. Her heartbeat was faint, and Dick knew she didn't have much time left.
I'll be the one if you want me to.
"Zatanna… Zatanna you're going to be all right okay?" Dick comforted her with tears threatening to fall. "Just… just hang on, I'm calling the Justice League. Batman will patch you up and you'll wake up in the med bay in the Watchtower and you'll be fine. Please… hang on…"
Anywhere I would have followed you.
Dick knew he was just comforting himself. He couldn't lose anyone else he cared about. Especially her.
Say something I'm giving up on you.
"Di-… Dick…" Zatanna managed to splutter out. Nightwing gave her a sad smile.
"Yeah Zee?"
"Pr-... Promise me… promise you'll tell my dad… even if he can't respond… he can hear you…" Tears leaked out of her eyes. "I… I don't… want him… to find out… from anyone else…please…"
"What? No, you're going to be perfectly fine, Zee! You're going to get out of this!"
Zatanna looked at him sadly with her clear blue eyes.
And I…
I'm feeling so small…
"I love you, Dick." Zatanna's eyes rolled to the back of her head and her heart stopped beating that slow, faint rhythm.
It was over my head…
"Z… Zatanna?" Dick held his breath. "Zatanna, say something!"
I know nothing at all.
"Zatanna!" Dick called a little louder, desperate for a response, but there was no answer. "No… No… sh-she can't be…"
And I…
Will stumble and fall.
Dick checked for her pulse again and again. Nothing. The realization came to him. The love of his life was dead.
I'm still learning to love…
He started to sob. As hard as he could.
Just starting to crawl.
"ZATANNAAAAAAAAA!" He helplessly cried out hoping that she could hear him.
Say something I'm giving up on you.
The Justice League arrived at this time, and hearing Nightwing's strangled scream they rushed over. They saw him on his knees, hunched over, spilling tears over Zatanna's body.
I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you.
"I… I love you too, Zee."
Anywhere I would have followed you.
The Justice League kept their distance, but Batman strided over and put a hand on Dick's shoulder.
Say something I'm giving up on you.
"Come on, Nightwing," Batman said softly, surprisingly, "Let's get her to the Watchtower."
And I…
Will swallow my pride…
Dick shook his head, tears still leaking through his mask and streaming down his face.
You're the one that I love…
"No… you were too late…"
And I'm saying goodbye.
"She's gone."
