They snuck through the halls of Spirit World, the three of them. Hiei was in the lead, merely a slightly darker shadow among many shadows, invisible to all but the most observant of people, silent, deadly. Kurama followed, and, despite his fiery red hair and bright magenta uniform, he too was stealthy enough to escape detection. His footfalls made less noise than sunlight hitting grass, and the shadows themselves seemed to wrap around him, guarding him from watchful eyes. Gouki brought up the rear, considerably noisier than the others. Then again, he had hardly the build for a thief; he was large, well-muscled, and over six feet tall.
The three crept past another group of guards, as they made their way to the vault where their goals, the Artifacts of Darkness, were kept. Just as they rounded the corner, about to make it…Kurama's watch beeped.
The others wheeled around, tensing.
"Kurama…" Hiei threatened, discovering the source of the beep.
"Oops…" he quietly said. "I guess I forgot to take it off 'Chime every hour.'"
The guards snapped to attention.
"Thieves! Thieves!" they cried.
Scowling, Hiei drew his sword, muttering something about "Idiot foxes."
Kurama could only shrug helplessly.
