A Single Constant
He had fallen for her during Fourth Year but knew better than to let that knowledge be known to anyone especially in the Slytherin House where it could be used against him. It was a rumor that their families were deciding on a betrothal.
That had hurt but Blaise's feelings still had not lessened towards the Slytherin girl. It had only grown stronger if anything. It had been painful to watch her being all over Draco every single moment that they were together but he was a Slytherin, he could handle it.
Then the war had ended and things had changed.
Draco broke off the arrangement with the Parkinsons for a marriage with Pansy and before anyone could think anything of it, there had been news of him getting married to Astoria Greengrass.
That was perhaps safer than marrying Pansy as the Greengrass family had been a neutral family in the war. It would indicate the slight changes to the Malfoy's usual rules regarding muggleborns and the like as Astoria herself had been known to befriend some muggleborns during her time at Hogwarts.
All the Slytherins of their year had been invited to the wedding of Draco Malfoy and Astoria Greengrass three years after the end of the Second Wizarding War, including a tear-stricken Pansy who had cried silently throughout the entire ceremony. She had nearly run out of the hall a couple of times but she had held enough Slytherin characteristics through her misery not to draw attention to herself.
Blaise felt his heart tighten at her silent tears. He had wanted to date her but she was never supposed to have her heart broken for his chance.
He had held her that day and soothed her carefully.
She had accepted his comfort then accepted him.
