A/N: This is very short and simple. I got this idea the other day, thinking about my life. How people often don't realize how lucky they are. My life is not at all similar to Scully's, but I often wonder what it would be like to have a different, "ideal" life. This is about Scully feeling that way. Hope it's alright. :)

Scully sat on a wooden bench in a local park. She had the day off from work and could use the relaxation.

It was a warm day in August. The laughs of children playing tag as they enjoyed their summer vacation, the refreshing sound of the crisp air shaking the leaves on the green trees. A couple holding hands passed by her, smiles on both of their faces, enjoying each other while on a brisk walk. Scully's blue-gray eyes focused on them for a moment, then the children playing tag, pausing to take sips from juice boxes. She couldn't help but think to herself.

A normal life. She exhaled slowly, contemplating the sights around her. A family walking their dog, husband, wife, two children. Hadn't that been the ideal life? Hadn't that been the life she wanted? Desired? That most women seemed to dream of? Would she ever accomplish that desire someday? Be the wife in the scenario she had been analyzing?

Or was she taking her life for granted? She was strong both mentally and physically. Her intelligence, her confidence, her job. She had saved lives, arrested the guilty, protected the innocent. Had she thought about others more than herself? Maybe it was time to put herself first. Still, she couldn't imagine resigning. She had made a best friend. Could their friendship possibly turn into something more one day in the future? Years from now? Who knew. She was a skeptic, not a psychic.

Relaxation had not succeeded. Now she couldn't get her mind to quiet down, the thoughts to take a break. Where was her future going? Would she end up getting killed during an investigation? Or would she be plagued with another disease? Would she end up quitting the FBI? Being fired? Maybe a little bit of psychic powers wouldn't be a bad thing after all.

Her eyes had still been focused on the family walking their small dog. She smiled at the thought of Queequeg. She pressed her lips together as her eye's moved toward the couple sharing a quick, simple kiss, then the children. The husband put his arm around his wife, giving her a loving smile. They soon descended from her view.

She thought to herself, standing up from the bench and brushing herself off. She exited the park, taking in a long, deep breath of the fresh summer air.

Some people don't realize how lucky they are.
