Another Language
Written for and dedicated to one of my good friends, nicknamed Pork Chop.
"Ni hao, my dear chibi-san."
Edward looked around wildly, startled. He knew that voice well.
"Envy?"
"I'm here. Look up," the voice replied.
Edward lifted his head up and saw the familiar figure of a man with palm-tree hair crouching on the rooftop of a house. The man leapt down from his high position in one graceful and swift movement, landing lightly on the ground.
"What was that you said to me?" Edward questioned. "It doesn't sound like English to me."
"That's because it wasn't English," Envy explained. "It was Xingish."
"Xingish? Do you mean the language that people from the country Xing speak?"
"Yep, spot on, chibi," Envy said, nodding.
"Don't call me chibi," Edward growled half-heartedly. He was used to Envy calling him chibi day and night already. "What does the thing you said mean? Was it an insult?"
"Of course it wasn't an insult, chibi. I wouldn't dream of offending you in a foreign language you don't know," he said in a sweet tone. Edward snorted.
"Get to the point. What does it mean," Edward demanded.
"It kinda means hello," Envy said.
"Oh."
"I'll tell you more. Zhao an means good morning. Wu an means good afternoon. Wan an means goodnight." And so Envy continued the list, teaching his chibi-san how to use Xing to say some daily greetings and stuff.
Then he asked Edward, "Do you know what wo ai ni means?"
"Nope, can't guess," Edward mumbled, already tired of Envy's endless buzzing about this new language. He was never quite interested in languages.
"I'll give you a clue," Envy said. He placed a quick kiss on Ed's cheek. "Now do you know what it means?"
Edward blushed. Envy smirked and said, "Tell me what it means."
Edward's cheeks went even redder. "I love you," he said, almost in a whisper.
"That's right. Wo ai ni," Envy said and leaned in for a deeper, more passionate kiss.
