"It's okay. K-Mart? Everything is going to be okay, alright?" K-Mart nods as Carlos dries away her tears.
"Carlos, you don't have to do this." Claire is just as upset as the little girl, but covers it up quite well, by not letting him see her fear, by not letting him smell it on her, in the end that is always what keeps her sane. Her humanity.
"Take care of them. They're still going to look for you to lead them and do so, but protect them."
Claire Redfield takes off her ray ban sunglasses and scoffs lightly.
"I'll do my best."
The two of them, the strongest ones in the convoy, Claire and Carlos, exchange smiles.
"You think I could get a hug too? Or is little Miss Claire Redifield too good to fulfill a dying man's last wish?"
With a wicked grin on her face, Claire leaps into the arms of Carlos Olivera. He holds a tight grip around her.
"Don't let go."
She clutches her eyes shut, afraid to open them, afraid he'd already be gone.
"You can do this Claire. You've gotten us this far, Alaska is just around the corner."
"Alright, I'm going to try."
"Good girl."
He puts her down and gives her shoulders a squeeze.
"I do have one more wish... do you have any smokes left?"
Claire shakes her head.
In the corner of his eye, Carlos sees yet another woman in his life, whom which he's not too keen on leaving behind.
Just as she had re-entered his life, 'where are you?' was the one question he never stopped asking himself, Carlos had never stopped thinking about her.
"So this is it, huh?"
"I guess so. Look at us Alice, here we are, with nothing left."
"That's not entirely true, we have a chance."
"You're right, you have a chance. You're extraordinary Alice, you will do a lot of good."
"It has to end to begin…"
"And that's why I'm ending it. Without family we don't live, we merely exist. Take care of the family, fight the extinction, exist it, live through it."
Alice lowers her head.
Carlos lifts her chin, he strokes her cheek and clears his throat.
"Hey, you can do this. Claire and you together, I believe in you."
Alice looks over at Claire, who is trying hard not to make eye contact.
"She hates me."
"She doesn't hate you, she'll come around when she realizes that she actually needs you."
"Her eyes smile but her mouth does not.
"Just make sure they get out of here, alice, then you can go your own way."
"Alice grabs his hand.
"Here, I was going to save them, but I no longer see a point in doing so."
Carlos looks down in his hand, cigarettes. He watches Alice walk away…
