Anything Can Happen: A Legend
A Song of the Lioness Fic
Author's Note: Drabble. I do not own anyone from the world of Tortall. That's all Tammy's.
Alanna of Trebond & Olau tried to cover a yawn. "Do me a favor, Coram?"
"It depends."
"Tell me a story of the Dominion Jewel, please. I've forgotten most of them."
"A tale, then? Ye haven't asked for one of them in years. Which one? Ah. Miache was a Carthaki waterfront thief, three hundred years ago…"

Hearing my name, I turn. No one is looking at me.
"They're telling our story."
He has come up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist, his chin resting comfortably on my head. I grin.
In the World of the Dead, you can hear them that's still alive. Every time someone says your name, you hear it. When you're a legend, every time someone tells your story, you hear it.
I listen for a moment as I lean back into his arms.
"The Gallans hired her t'steal the Jewel from their own king..."
Zefrem chuckles at my mischievous grin as I remember. Some parts of my life are as foggy as a deep river, but this one isn't.
"You'll never get old of it, Thief."
"Never, Mercenary," I agree as I kiss him.
I break away and move closer to hear the rest. My—our—story's the only thing that can distract me from him. He doesn't mind, knowing that once the story's over, he'll have me as he wants. He's never been one to let go of something if there's no profit in the end.
I go to the pool, and look in. The water clears and I see an old soldier in an inn. He's told this story before. He's telling a grown boy—a knight, by the looks of it—about the Dominion Jewel. Silly lad, you've not got a chance.
But then, the Jewel came to me and worked wonders. Created a legend out of me, it did. Maybe the purple-eyed, red-haired boy will become a great legend. And his story will be told to generations.
Anything is possible. Look at me.
This is an excerpt from story I just rediscovered. Let me know if you like it :)
