A/N: This is a tag to Building 26. I got this idea and it almost wrote itself. Enjoy, R&R

"So, would you mind telling me more about your healing thing?" Alex and Claire sat in her closet eating gummi bears, the only thing Claire felt safe swiping from the pantry, by the light of a battery-powered stick-up light and a camping lantern flashlight.

Claire gave a half hearted shrug, "I get hurt, I heal. That's kind of it."

Alex studied her. "Any injury? Anything and you can heal? Just like that?" he said quietly, unsure of how much sound would travel in the house.

"Pretty much."

"Like Wolverine," he snickered.

"Sort of," she replied wrinkling her nose, uncomfortable with the comparison. "Just without any ability to defend myself. All I can really do is get hurt, get up and run away. Super Damsel-in-Distress."

"Like mine's a whole lot better. I'm like Aquaman without the other lame powers," Alex added derisively.

"Hey, I'm sure being able to breath underwater is a handy skill." Claire smiled at his mocking appraisal of his ability.

"So you said that there taking people like us. That means there are others that have abilities."

"Yeah," Claire drew out the word not seeing where the conversation was headed.

"So what can they do?"

"Well," Claire shifted her legs, settling into a position of authority. "For everyone it's pretty much different. Like, I know someone who can read minds. He can also kinda put thoughts in your head, make you do stuff."

"Like Charles Xavier from X-Men," Alex added excitedly.

Taken aback by his comment, she gave a perplexed smile to hide her discomfort. "That was the bald guy, right?"

"Yeah," Alex snickered, more at his own geekiness than her lack of familiarity with Marvel. "That's kind of scary though, the thing he can do, make you do something, control you."

"I guess," Claire conceded. "In could be in the wrong hands maybe." Claire could not picture Matt using his ability for anything, for want of a better word, evil. She added quickly to reassure Alex, "But, Matt's one of the good guys. He's trying to stop the people who are trying to get us."

"Okay, so telepath guy. Anyone else?"

"He's dating a girl who can run, like, super fast."

"Like the Flash," he said with a look of realization.

"Who?" Claire asked with a look of confusion.

"DC character," he replied. Still not seeing any dawn of comprehension, he clarified, "Comic book superhero." Claire nodded in understanding. "Okay, I guess I'll have to stick to referencing only franchises that have been turned into movies or TV shows."

Claire rolled her eyes. "You know, eventually you will have to have to deal with what's going on without relating it to comics."

"I don't know," Alex replied leaning back as much as he could in the cramped space. "Comics seem to be pretty on the money here. People with powers, other people trying to control those powers. All I see that's missing are some tights and clever names that serve to conceal our identities," He wiggled his glasses using his ears and gave a joking smirk.

"Except this real life," Claire replied seriously, unswayed by his mirth. "Real people are actually getting hurt. You are in real danger. This isn't some story."

"I know. That's why I'm sleeping in cute girl's closet as opposed to my own bed," he said with a big grin. "I get it," he continued somberly. "Trust me, I get it. This is real. Comics aren't. But they seem to be offering more explanations than conventional sources right now."

"It's late. We'd better get some sleep. We'll figure out our next step in the morning." Claire got up and stepped out of her closet. She paused at the mirrored door. "Good night, Aquaman."

"Night, Silver Fox," Alex replied. When Claire a perplexed look, he replied with a smirk, "Look it up."
