Summary: the 9th Doctor gets a rare second chance to be the Time Lord he was before the war when he comes across Isla and Mira. But they aren't an ordinary mother, daughter duo. No, they're Warlocks. (I've based them off of the Warlocks from Netflix's Shadowhunters).

The Doctor walked up to the TARDIS and was about to unlock it when he heard a set of running footsteps. He turned and saw a little girl of no more than five years old come into view. She looked scared. If there was one thing he didn't ignore, it was children in need.

He intercepted the girl who jumped back in fright. "It's ok. I'm not going to hurt you", the Doctor said gently, coming down to her level "I'm the Doctor. What's your name?"

"Isla", the girl answered.

"And why were you running Isla?" the Doctor asked.

"Mummy told me to run. She wanted me away from the bad men chasing us", the blonde replied.

"And where is your mummy?" the Doctor questioned. The girl pointed toward the direction she came in. "I'm going to go help your mummy Isla but I need you to be a brave girl and go wait by that blue box over there" he pointed over at the TARDIS "until I come back with your mummy, ok?"

Isla nodded "Ok", she agreed. The Doctor watched her go over to his shop before he went off to look for the girl's mother.

When he rounded a corner he saw a purple haired woman be knocked to the floor by a man dressed in black. "We were told you'd be a challenge", one of them sneered "looks like the boss was wrong. You're just-"

The man was abruptly cut off when the Doctor hit him, hard. The other man didn't have a chance to retaliate when he joined his buddy on the floor.

The Time Lord turned to the purple haired woman. "Are you alright?" he asked holding out a hand.

"I'll live", she answered taking his hand. He helped her up, steadying her as she wobbled. "Thank you", she said gratefully.

"You're welcome", The Doctor said.

"Isla", the woman said suddenly "I've got to find her".

"She's ok", The Doctor assured her "She's waiting for you" and with that he led her back to the TARDIS where sure enough Isla was still waiting anxiously. Though the second she saw her mother, she pelted towards her.

"Mummy!" Isla cried.

"Isla!" the woman matched her daughter's tone, scooping up the girl when she was close enough.

"I hate to cut this short but those men won't be down for much longer", the Doctor spoke up after watching the reunion for about a minute.

"Right", the woman sighed "We better get going then".

"You could come with me", the Doctor suggested earning a look of surprise from the purple haired woman "There's plenty of room" he nodded to the TARDIS.

"We couldn't put you out like that", the woman said.

"I think we should go with him, mummy. He saved you from the bad men", Isla spoke up.

"You sure kitten?" the woman asked the girl.

Isla nodded "100%" she said. The purple haired woman looked back at the Doctor.

"Looks like we're going with you then", she said. Shifting her hold on Isla, she stuck out her hand "I'm Mira", she said.

"The Doctor", the Time Lord said shaking her hand. He turned to the blue box, unlocked the door and stepped inside. Mira followed him in, her mouth dropping open in amazement at the interior.

"It's bigger on the inside!" Isla exclaimed. The Doctor couldn't help but grin at their reactions.

He didn't know yet but Mira and Isla were going to become the two most important people in the universe to him. Not only that, they were also going to be the second chance he sorely needed after his actions that ended the Time War.
