Though the parting hurts...the rest is in your hands!

-Grovyle, Pokemon Explorers of Time/Darkness-

Parting Pain

They'd done it.

They'd done it.

They'd done it.

No matter how many times she said it to herself, she just couldn't grasp it.

They'd done it.

Temporal Tower was saved. Time itself was saved. The whole world was saved!

But at the cost of her life.

She walked along slowly, her heart heavy, hating herself for not being able to bring herself to tell Aqua, her oldest, most beloved friend that she was going to die.. It would break his dear little heart, she knew.

But she knew eventually she'd have to tell. Tell him she was going to die. Tell him she was basically going to disappear into thin air...

All because they'd done the right thing and saved the world.

Though the parting hurts, the rest is in your hands!

Grovyle. Who had he been to her? What history had they made together? Had he started disappearing, like she was about to?

Heaviness...sight darkening...light beginning to swirl around her...

It was time to confess. Before she faded forever.

"Aqua?"

"Julia, what--Julia! What's happening?!"

"Aqua...there's something I haven't told you."

With her final, heaving breaths, she told him everything. How saving the world meant, basically, killing her. How saving the planet from paralysis ultimately doomed her. How what they had just done was actually making her fade, little by little--as was evidenced by the light swirling around her, swarming her body.

"Julia...Julia..." Tears streamed down his cheeks as he clutched at her Torchic form. "Oh Julia...if only...if only...we could've stopped, we could've saved you..."

"But Aqua, would you?" she asked softly. "Would you have doomed the world to save me? Aqua, it was what I was meant to do. Saving the world was what I was meant to do. I came here for that very reason, knowing that...knowing I would fade after...after saving the world. Would you have done that--that heinous, unforgivable thing just to save a single human?"

Aqua was still crying as he shook his head no. Julia knew he wouldn't, after all. As the light swirled around her body, she smiled.

"Aqua...just so you know...I regret nothing."

And as she slowly turned into light, she suddenly said, "Aqua!"

The Mudkip looked up at her, having fallen to the ground, sobbing.

"Tell the world of our story. Tell the world of our pain, that none may ever, ever feel it again. Tell them that...so nothing like this will ever happen again. So that no best friends will ever be parted again."

Still sobbing, the Mudkip Aqua nodded as his friend touched one wing to his paw and whispered, "Best friends forever...Aqua."

Yes, Grovyle, the parting hurts. Worse than anything. But...It was worth the world. And someday...I'll see you and Aqua again...and it'll be like we were never parted at all.

-sob- I actually CRIED at this scene! -sob- I was crying for all of five minutes and probably would've cried more if Dad hadn't appeared. I was howling, "Why me? Why always me? Why can't it be Wigglytuff and Chatot instead?"
