Disclaimer: I don't own Pirates.
This was just a little drabble that popped into my head. Not too much to say about it, but I felt like posting it.
He stood in the surf, feet firmly planted in the sand, letting wave after wave crash into him. They hit with driving force, seeking to uproot him from the sand. He laughed to himself, and waded farther into the onslaught; at their roughest, the breakers reached his chest.
They were powerful, strong enough to propel him back a few paces, but he didn't care. It was an odd ritual; the waves crashed into him with growing force, finally driving him beneath the surface of the water.
It was almost a farewell.
Spluttering and coughing up seawater, he staggered out of the water, completely drenched, to flop onto the sandy beach. The sun felt warm on his face, and he closed his eyes, relishing the feel on the sand beneath his body. Even the grains that were stuck in his wet hair and clothes didn't bother him.
How good it felt to simply be on land!
The feel of the firm earth beneath him once more, solid and unyielding—he loved it.
Even so, the ocean called to him, and he knew he could never give it up entirely. For ten years, the ocean had been his home. He had lived by the ebb and flow of the tides, performing his duties, all the while comforted by the rocking swells and the distant dream of walking on land once more.
He could remember when he had lived on land as well, trying his hardest to make a life for himself. For the past ten years, though, land had been but a memory, a far-off dream that lingered on the thin edge separating fantasy and reality.
It hadn't truly been home for a long time.
He wasn't sure which he loved more…the ocean's freedom, or the comfort and reliability of land. He didn't think that he could ever choose one or the other. They were both so different, and yet both appealed to him equally. However, another option presented itself, and he found that his choice was made.
Laughing, he jumped up, arms wide, to greet his wife and son.
Will Turner was home.
So, yeah...I can't be blamed for my random ideas :p If you feel like leaving a review, I would greatly appreciate it!
