Holding Hands
Germania didn't bother knocking. Rome didn't care for intruders, and the door was wide open. Rome sat with his back to the door, hunched over something. Germania took one loud purposeful step, making sure Rome knew he was there.
Rome turned around and flashed a grin. He was looking at a picture of that his Grandson had drawn of the two of them. Germania had seen the kid a few times before. A cute child with less of a brain than his grandfather.
"I've got a plan Germania, hear me out." His smile never faded as he stared at the drawing. "Italy is now old enough for me to leave. So...I'm leaving. He doesn't need my help anymore." Germania stood silently beside Rome, his captor for so long he couldn't remember ever being separate.
In his mind, he was calling Rome an idiot for getting depressed about something he knew was going to happen. The only reason Germania himself was still around was because Rome was holding on.
"So here's my plan." Rome's voice dropped to a whisper, forcing Germania to bend lower to hear him. He was half expecting the powerful country to say, 'we're going to hide out at Austria's house and eat pasta', but Rome's actual words shocked him. "We're gonna elope. Is that okay, Germania?" Battle toughened fingers played in the long strands of gold silk hanging limply.
Germania stood before Rome, his mouth hung open slightly, trying to digest what Rome had so calmly said.
"Germania? Are we gonna do it? Let's run away together! I brought along lots of pasta just in case we get hungry!" Rome looked at him, Grinning, for a long time.
"Together?" the blonde finally forced out. "Won't they wonder where we are?"
"No one will worry. It'll just be you and me." Rome folded up the picture carefully and tucked it away before taken Germania's hand. Germania allowed himself to be dragged along. He wasn't sure if he was afraid, but he didn't know where they were going, though Rome made it clear that he didn't care.
It just mattered that they got away, and that they were still holding hands by the end of it.
