Batch 1: Fen

Fen sighed wistfully as she glanced back at the castle that held the nursery. Her maturity had come as a surprise to all, and she was just starting to realize how mentally unprepared she was for this. Ever since she had gotten her wings she had been surrounded by hatchlings. Ros, Benec, and... D'hul. He didn't even come to say goodbye to her. She touched the pebble she wore around her neck, her mature claws having gained the same flexibility of a humans hands. The first day she started wearing it... the look on D'hul's face...

She forced her thoughts away from D'hul and onto the two hatchlings that were suppose to join them soon. She had been looking forward to greeting the purple dragon and having another female around but now...

It wasn't that she mind growing up, but she just didn't expect to face her first few days of maturity alone...

Her thoughts trailed off as something hit her leg. It was a piece of paper-wrapped... something...

Unfolding the paper revealed a beautiful stone that changed colors with the light. There was only one dragon she knew who would give her such a thing. She turned, expecting to see his familiar smile but met only emptiness. That was when the rustling of the paper drew her attention to the message written on it.

I'm coming, so wait for me.
D'hul

Fen smiled at the message as she started looking for a cave to call home. Yes, she was totally unprepared for being the first, but D'hul was right behind her and Ros and Benec would follow soon. She'd meet the new arrivals when they mature and Benec, being Benec, would introduce all of them. Meanwhile, there were views to hunt, a home to find and a new land to explore.

She wondered if she could learn how to make a tiara before the others arrived.

A/N:That took longer than expected and was way more angsty than I'd have thought. Her maturing also plays havoc with my plans for introducing the two I'm expecting to hatch into the nursery. Oh well, it's not like they follow what I plan once I start typing anyway.
