The two shinobi laid next to each on the lush grass, beneath the night sky. The stars flickered every once in a while, providing the pair a delicate blanket of light.

A pale hand reached out and attempted to make a fist, almost as if grasping the stars, before the owner of said appendage spoke up.

"Why did you choose me, Madara?"

Obsidian orbs glanced at her through his peripheral vision.

Sakura was honestly baffled. What did she have that could possibly interest the powerful Uchiha? Her looks were mediocre, her temper as explosive as volcanoes, and her skills both as a shinobi and medical ninja were only above average.

"My life was very dark and bleak before you came along, Sakura. I was so lost in my own demented world that I lost vision of what really mattered. What's the point of possessing the most powerful kekkei genkai in the world if you don't have someone to protect with it?"

Shock was evident in the petite female's emerald eyes. This man beside her, this untamed and powerful man, no matter how twisted his previous ambitions seemed to be-

"Madara, I…"

Sakura reached out and placed a delicate hand on masculine chest. She could feel the life beneath her fingertips, settling itself into a steady rhythm.

The Uchiha turned to look at his pink-haired companion. Callused fingers planted themselves on supple skin and Sakura couldn't help but lean her head towards the comforting heat.

"Darling, you are a collapsed sun. At night, you lay your hand on me and they resemble rays of sunlight and everything is warm."
