He was running. A huge crossing between an insect and a reptile was behind him, constantly almost grabbing him with its tentacles. He was breathing in all the air he could, and his heart was beating at a never performed rate. Then he saw it. A cliff. Right in front of him. And all he could do was keep running, if he didn't he'd be eaten by the monster. He was blinded by his own sweat and the soft rain that fell out of the air. There were still a few steps to go before he'd fall off the cliff, but then...

A face appeared in front of him. "Wake up, John. Come on." A voice said loudly, but caring. John opened his eyes, gasped and immediately sat up, almost hitting the other person. He stared into space wildly. "It was a nightmare, John. Do you want some water?" John turned to the person, shaking, and nodded. He now recognised him; it was Eric. He filled a glass of water and gave it to him. "Thanks." John said. Eric sat down on his bed.

"Are you okay?" He asked. John shrugged. "Wasn't the first time I had that dream." He looked down. Eric looked at him. "What was it about?" He asked. John shook his head and felt his eyes become teary. He didn't know dreams could have such an impact on you. "Stupid." He mumbled. Eric sighed. "You'll feel better if you tell me." He said. "It's childish." John responded.

"If it were childish you wouldn't be acting like this. Come on, you can tell me. I won't laugh."

John looked up, his cheeks now wet of tears. Eric softly wiped them away, his hand resting on John's cheek. "Just the chase thing and all... " John said and smiled a bit, "You woke me up just before I jumped off a cliff."

They were silent for a while, both looking in each others eyes, till Eric looked at his watch. It was already early in the morning. "Do... do you want me to stay or..." He gestured to the door. "No, please stay." John said quickly. He laid down in his bed and held up the blankets for Eric, who laid down next to him. He snuggled closer to him and put his arms around him.

The next morning they were woken up by the sun shining through the thin curtains. Eric was wrapped in John's arms, and their foreheads were touching. They refused to move and lied there in peaceful silence until noon, when they began to get hungry. From that moment on, John always thought of Eric whenever he was scared, and everything would be alright again.
