Marik Ishtar woke with a start, clutching his heart. His alarm clock was blaring, and Marik stared at it with fascination. He had never had to wake up to an alarm clock before; after all, there was no point in telling time when you were underneath the ground in an ancient Pharaoh's tomb. He examined the clock and saw a big gray button with "snooze" written across it. He pushed it and the alarm turned off. He sighed with relief.

According to the red numbers, it was 6 o'clock. Well, Marik thought, time to get ready for school.

Marik got out of bed and went into the bathroom, turning on the hot water for a shower. He quickly stripped out of his PJ's and hopped in the tub. He gasped at the sudden heat rushing from his head down his body and through the drain at his feet. These hot showers were going to take some getting used to. In fact, everything in this house, in this country was going to take some getting used to. Going from living under ground in Egypt, with no showers, alarms or even real beds, to living in Domino, Japan, where he had stuff he had never seen before, and had to learn the language and the culture and customs was a lot for the fourteen year old to take in.

After washing off thoroughly, Marik turned off the water and dried off with his lavender colored towel. Then he grabbed his new hair dryer, plugged it in, and flipped the switch to 'on'. That was another thing they didn't have back in the tomb in Egypt: Electricity.

He sighed as he felt the warm sensation of the air being blasted onto his hair. After a few minutes, his hair was fully dry and he was brushing it out, making sure each strand of his bronze blonde hair was in its proper place. He stared at himself in the mirror for a long time, thinking about his time in Egypt and why he was here. His eyes started to water thinking about it.

He shook away those thoughts and took a deep breath. He rubbed his temples, the tattoos around his eyes moving along with the skin around his eyes. Shaking his head again, Marik walked out of the bathroom.

Marik nearly jumped in surprise as a loud, shill noise broke through the silence. He walked over to his alarm clock and looked at it more closely, looking for the 'shut up for good!' button. He found it and flipped the switch to 'off'.

After he dropped the towel from his waist, he picked up his new school uniform and got dressed. Blue was definitely not his color, Marik thought. Well, at least it's not red, that color so doesn't go with my hair or eyes!

Marik was picking up his school bag when he heard a soft knock at the door. His sister, Ishizu poked her head in and sighed with relief that her brother was up and ready to go. He smiled at her.

"Morning!" He said, slinging his bag over his shoulder.

"You ready?" Ishizu asked, and he nodded. "Okay, I'll see you downstairs then."

He put his hands on his hips, and looked around the room. Well, good-bye room, I'm off to school. See you when I get back! Wish me luck! He said, knowing it was silly to 'talk' to his room, but he did it anyway, it made him feel nice, as if he actually had some one to say stuff like that to.

Marik walked over to the door and opened it, thinking about what he would do when he got home from school. Maybe he should ask Odion if he could get him a laptop. That might cure his boredom, with that thought in mind; he smiled, and closed the door behind him.

Ishizu was waiting for him downstairs, tapping her foot impatiently, her arms crossed. She looked up at him when she heard his footsteps coming down the stairs.

"Finally," she said grabbing her bag and walking toward the door, picking up the keys on her way out. He followed her, saying a small goodbye to the house as he closed the door.
