Darth Vader gazed at the stars from the viewport in his quarters. If it weren't for him, he would have his Padme and his unborn child by his side. If only Obi Wan hadn't showed up on Mustafar. It had been a week since the Empire's foundation.
A week since Palpatine had become the ruler of the galaxy.
A week since he had become his second in command. A week since he had betrayed the Jedi and slaughtered those innocent younglings in the temple. A week since his wife, his Padme had... died.
By his hand.
"It's all Obi Wan's fault", his mind screamed to him. "If he hadn't set foot on Mustafar, then Padme would still be here and my child would be sleeping in a room in the private wing."
"Would it had been a boy or a girl?" his mind wondered.
He would never know because of Obi Wan and...himself.
Vader felt tears stain his face. He had choked her. His own wife. He had killed her. Her pleading and heartbroken face kept flashing in his head. It hurt. It hurt even more that he had killed the child before he or she had even taken his first breath.
The hood that concealed his face couldn't hide his sobs. He was lucky that he was in quarters or else his reputation as a Dark Lord of The Sith might be lost.
Vader was startled as he felt a presence outside his doors. Before that person could ring the doorbell, he had opened the doors using The Force.
The doors opened revealing one of his officers, looking like he would collapse from fear any minute now.
"What is it?" Vader growled menacingly.
The man turned pale. "There are rumours of a Jedi being sighted on Tatooine."
This had caught Vader's interest. "Any further news about that Jedi?" he questioned.
"The locals of Tatooine call him some crazy wizard. It is believed he is a Jedi. He goes by the name Ben Kenobi".
Vader felt a smile tugging his lips. Kenobi. Obi Wan Kenobi, his dear former master who turned his own wife against him!
"Very well. I shall 'deal' with that Jedi immediately," Vader replied glee soaking his tone. "All Jedi are traitors to the Empire and must be executed. Set course to Tatooine".
"Very well milord", the man saluted and left.
His old master must think that his despise for the planet kept him safe. No, he was wrong. He would settle the score between them. Kenobi would pay.
Two and a half days later...
The Executor had landed on his home planet and Vader was walking down the ramp.
A few Stormtroopers had asked whether he need to be escorted but Vader had denied that. He was capable of of protecting himself.
Vader had found his way to Mos Eisley where he had ordered a drink in a bar. He had disguised himself so that nobody would start screaming and alerting Kenobi that he was here. He was here for revenge.
He passed some aliens who looked to be in a very deep discussion. Vader's eyes rested on them and his ears caught every word they were saying.
"That old wizard's a Jedi. What I'm telling you is true. He can use the Force", a Twi'lek insisted.
"You 'ave to be lying. That ain't true", another alien which (Vader couldn't recognize his species) argued.
Another creature spoke up. "Kenobi is a Jedi. The odd thing is he lives quite near the Larses' farm. I passed the farm plenty of times and I always see him, guarding it. His eyes always stay on a baby the Larses have. It doesn't look like their son. I've seen the kid, he ain't look like 'em."
Why was Kenobi so interested in the Lars anyway? Why was he so interested in a little baby?
He guessed the answer to his first question was that the Lars were his step family. But why was he interested in a mere baby?
He didn't need to listen anymore. He already knew where Kenobi was.
Vader got into his speeder and set out for the Larses farm. The last time he had been here had been when...
He refused to think about it.
He focused on finding Kenobi.
A while later...
He was just outside the Larses' homestead. The last time he had been here was when he...
He couldn't think about that now. Those memories belonged to a different a man. A man that was weak.
He was Darth Vader, Dark Lord of The Sith not Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight.
He was brought out of his thoughts when a voice he knew too well broke the silence.
" I knew you would come Anakin," Obi Wan said.
Vader's felt his anger flare. "That name means nothing to me, Kenobi." he snarled.
"It is the name of your true self, Anakin", Obi Wan insisted.
Vader reached for his lightsaber. "I have come here to finish this once and for all. You turned Padme against me! If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have choked her and she would still be here!" Vader screamed.
"I didn't turn her against you." Obi Wan protested. "No one could do that. She loved you too much."
"Why were you there on Mustafar?" Vader shouted.
"You were there to kill me weren't you? I couldn't believe that my own master tried to kill me!"
Obi Wan held his lightsaber in front of him in a defence stance. "If I had killed you, you wouldn't have to sell your soul to Palpatine. Do you know what Padme's last words were? She said that she still believed that there was still good in you!"
Vader froze. How could Padme have any last words when he had choked her to death? Could there be any chance that he hadn't killed her?
Obi Wan looked ready to slap himself. Now, Vader was bound to be suspicious. He had risked Luke and Leia's safety. Soon, Vader would find out.
"Obi Wan, did I not kill her?" Vader whispered.
Obi Wan didn't answer. That was it. Vader would find out about his children.
"Answer me, Kenobi!" he shouted.
I'm sorry Luke and Leia.
Obi Wan took a deep breath before saying the next words that shocked him. " You didn't kill her on Mustafar. Padme had gone into labor. I took her to Polis Massa where she gave birth. She lived long enough to name her child".
If Vader finds out about Luke, I'll make sure he won't find out about Leia. No doubt that he'll find Luke but he won't find Leia so soon.
Vader could feel his heart skip a beat. His child! He had a child! He hadn't killed her! He was a father!
"Where is my child?" Vader asked him. If Kenobi didn't answer, he would make him answer.
Obi Wan hesitated. But a voice in the back of head sounded.
"Obi Wan, tell him. The Jedi Order was wrong. Attachment isn't dangerous. You should tell him about his son. He has every right to him. Don't let him find out about Leia. I have a feeling that Luke will bring him back. Luke will bring him back to the light."
"Qui Gon", he murmured to himself. Had Qui Gon taken leave of his senses? If Luke was raised by Vader, Luke would be raised a Sith Lord. No! No! He wouldn't let one of the last pieces of his Padawan be corrupted!
Can Luke bring Anakin back?
"I gave the child to your family, Anakin. Owen and Beru are raising him. I didn't hide him from you! I hid him from Palpatine! Do you know what Palpatine would do? He would twist Luke's mind in the Dark Side. Do you want an innocent little child of yours to be raised as a Sith Lord? The Anakin I knew would rather die than see any offspring of his as a Sith."
Him
So it was a boy. Padme had been right. They had a son.
So, the baby his former master had taken an interest to was his son. Kenobi planned to train him as a Jedi. His little boy would be a weapon, raised to kill his own father.
"What about your Jedi ways?" Vader seethed. "You would have told him lies. You would have lied to him his entire life until he was old enough to kill his own father. His own father."
Obi Wan sighed. "I know you want to raise him after this revelation."
"Are you allowing me to do so?" Vader asked.
"He is your son, Anakin. I have only one request. Don't train him as a Sith. It would destroy him. Palpatine will turn him against you. Do you think he will even let you raise him? He will either be killed or trained in the Dark Side."
Vader felt overprotectiveness plant itself in him. "I will never let him lay a finger on my child!"
"Train him in the light. Don't train him in the dark. If not in the light, then how about basic Force techniques? He can train in the light when he is older", Obi Wan said.
Vader thought for a moment. "I will", he replied.
"May I see him?" Vader asked, expecting to be denied.
"You may", Obi Wan nodded.
"Just stay outside and let me talk to Owen and Beru first."
Obi Wan knocked on the door and was greeted by an annoyed looking Owen Lars.
"What is it you want this time, Kenobi?" he asked moodily.
Obi Wan smiled politely. "I have a friend of mine that wishes to see Luke".
Owen glared at him. "Do you expect me to allow some stranger spend some time with my nephew? I bet you that it's another Jedi".
"His name is Anakin Skywalker and he deserves every right to see Luke." Obi Wan answered calmly, amused by Owen's reaction.
Owen's eyes looked like they wanted to pop out of their sockets. "Y- you said he died", he stuttered.
"He is still alive, I assure you", Obi Wan said. "He wants to see his son".
"He'll take Luke away won't he?" Owen asked sadly. He had already begun to see Luke as a son.
"I will make sure Anakin lets his son visit you", Obi Wan assured him.
"Well come on in", Owen said.
"Where is Anakin?"
"Anakin, when you come in don't wear your hood on", Obi Wan sent.
"Yes, master", Vader replied.
Vader removed his hood, revealing his blonde hair and handsome features. He entered the house with barely controlled excitement.
He was going to met his child for the first time. He was going to meet his baby.
He nodded to Owen in greeting and his step brother nodded back. They shook hands.
"Beru will be glad to see you", Owen said akwardly.
"Thank you", Anakin whispered. " Thank you for taking care of my child".
"It was a pleasure", Owen said.
"Where is Beru ?" Anakin asked kindly.
"Here", A very familiar voice replied.
Beru appeared and smiled warmly at him.
"I knew you would come one day", Beru said. "But I just wasn't sure when".
She begun to cry. "You're here for him aren't you? You're welcome to take your child but I'll miss him. He's like a son to me."
"I'll make sure you both stay in touch. I'll bring him for visits," Anakin assured her.
Owen kissed her cheek to calm her down.
"I'll take you to him," Beru said, sniffling.
Beru guided him to a room and opened the door gesturing him to enter. Anakin could feel his heart skip a beat as he heard a baby's coo.
As he entered the room, he suddenly felt nervous.
What if his child didn't like him?
He was greeted by the sight of a cirb in the middle of the room. Anakin took a deep breath. Beru left the room to give him privacy.
Anakin went to the crib and stared down at the baby that occupied the crib.
The baby was swaddled in white blanket. He appeared to be squirming under the blankets. His tiny head looked up at him and a squeal escaped his tiny mouth. A coat of blonde hair was starting to grow on his head. His big blue eyes stared at his father curiously.
Anakin felt his eyes sting with tears of joy. He had a son.
His son looked so much like him. He could also see a bit of Padme and Shmi.
Carefully, he picked him up and cradled him close. The infant giggled and snuggled closer to Anakin.
Anakin felt joy in his heart spreading all over his being.
"Do you know who I am, baby?"
Anakin crooned.
The baby gurgled in response.
""I'm your daddy", Anakin said, kissing his forehead before showering his entire face with kisses. The little boy twitched his nose causing Anakin to laugh
He had his son now.
And he was never letting him go.
