Thanks for wanting to read this and not clicking on this by accident, (if you did you might as well continue!) this is my first fic and it's based on the game Skyward Sword but it's my own take on this so don't expect to take it too seriously. I'm doing this because I want to get my brain cells geared up again after being idle for so many years and this help a lot. Reviews both good and bad would be great but nothing too harsh as this is just the prototype for when I get better at writing again. Thanks again and hope you enjoy!
Prologue
"What could become of this?" She pondered, she had created a beautiful world, yet filled it was filled with horrors. A peaceful world, yet filled with war. And a world full of Light, yet filled with Darkness.
"Without Chaos there can be no Order, there can be no upsetting the universal balance." She closed her eyes in thought. Was this not the perfect world?
"No," she thought, " I will protect it." She looked down at her blood soaked sword with tears in Her eyes, "Though I cannot do this alone," She whispered "This has taken up too much of my power." Looking up towards the sky She saw in the distance the faint outline of a small bird fly away into a break in the clouds, She looked at where it had disappeared for a few minutes and sighed. The bird was completely safe up in the Heavens, unharmed and unaware of what was happening below. Perhaps that was a safe haven for her most beloved creations, out of sight and hidden from him...
"Then it is settled," She said, "I will gather them in one place and entrust them unto the Sky, where they can live in peace and prosperity, along with the winged ones, the birds, for they shall be the most trusted companions for my Humans..." She trailed off, there was not enough power to send all humans above the clouds, though the War had left many of them dead, She knew only a selected few could go, and they shall be the first Sky People, they shall be the ones to finally bring peace to this land. Those who got left behind will suffer a terrible fate, this She knew. It hurt Her more than anything but there must be sacrifices, She knew not what would become of the humans left on the Surface world...She doubted very much She'd live to see the end of this war, it had taken it's toll even on Her.
With this in mind Hylia stepped forward with sword in hand and vowed with Her last and final acts, this will be the undoing of Demise and though he may rise again, she left the humans and the rest of the world in charge of their own fate. As she walked She cried, until a tear fell to the ground as hard as stone, glowing bright blue, the colour of the sky, it lay there, glinting in the setting sun.
And thus, many years passed...
He was falling at a great speed, the wind rushing past his ears at an almost deafening tone, he could see Skyloft getting fainter and smaller as he plummeted, he tried moving his arms but the rush of air made it difficult to move, he started screaming but no sound came out. Why was this happening? He didn't remember falling off, why wasn't his necklace working? There was nothing to do but fall for what seemed like an eternity. Suddenly, though faint at first but got louder as he fell, he heard a demonic roar seemingly coming from below him. Then without warning he found himself being flipped around and saw to his dread what was making that awful scream, it was a monster, a huge black beast with its gigantic mouth wide open filled with long razor sharp teeth. And he was heading straight into it. Panic filled him as the creature opened it's mouth wider and he saw nothing but blackness in there. Just before he fell into oblivion he heard a voice whisper into his ear, even with the loud roar of the beast and the wind, it was clear.
"Time to wake up, hero." It said just as the darkness swallowed him.
Link woke up with the feeling of falling back into bed, his eyes snapped open and with a gasp sat up straight and looked around the room. It took a while for his eyes to adjust to the darkness around him. He could see the outlines of his room, his wardrobe was in the corner where he kept his clothes and the occasional rupee. Next to it was his desk where he did most of his studies, a large wooden bird that had been a gift from his mother was sitting on it. In the far corner was his sword and shield, which he kept near him at all times.
He sighed in relief, "It was just a dream," he thought as he rubbed his sweaty forehead. Link hated these nightmares, this was the third time in two weeks. He moved the covers off from him and walked in just his pajama pants to the bathroom, which was a door on the opposite side of the room. Link walked in and turned on the tap, the cool water came gushing out as he bent over to splash the water on his face. Nice and refreshing. As he dried his face with a towel he caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror, he was incredibly pale with blood shot eyes. But at least he wasn't screaming, the first time he had woken up in such a state and was yelling the guards had come running in. That had been embarrassing. The Prince of Skyloft crying every time he had a nightmare? Pipit had given him hell for it when he found out. Truth was, he missed the days when he could cry and get away with it, if he had a nightmare he could run into his parents room and mother would hug him and tell him it was just a dream and it couldn't hurt you, but that was before she...
He turned away from the mirror before any memories came up and felt a warm glow on his chest, looking down he could see his necklace shining, a sure sign the sun was rising, he turned his head towards the window and saw it begin to rise across the horizon, it's beams streaming through the window and into the room, giving everything a soft yellow colour. The necklace began to glow a bright shade of blue, the same colour as his eyes, as it responded to the sun. It was charging up, and he could feel the strength it gave him enter his body as it did so. He knew he'd feel more of the effects if he were outside, but he felt tired and decided to go back to sleep before he was awoken by the annoying sounds of one of his advisers constantly reminding him that it was his duty to get up at this stupid un-Goddlessly hour to help oversee the running of Skyloft before attending Knight Academy where he trained to become a Knight of Skyloft. At least his friends were there, and that was always a comfort. Without them he'd go insane, he was sure. He got back into bed and yawned, he couldn't remember when he last had some free time. His head hit the pillow, the dream now leaving his memory as he drifted back into sleep, only to be awoken a few minutes later by the sound of a large bird crashing into his window.
He woke up with a yell and fell out of bed, getting tangled in the sheets in the process. He tried reaching for his sword but his left foot was entwined in the sheet and struggling only seemed to make it worse. Looking up he saw the bird had it's head poking through the window and was squawking loudly, before he could do anything else, the two guards who were standing watch outside barged in with swords in hand. One looked at the bird and then at Link, who was still flailing on the floor.
"Hang on a minute!" Link shouted, as the guard made his way towards him. Link tutted as he finally got his foot free and looked at the bird still making a ruckus in the window. It was light brown in colour and looking closely he could make out that there was something in its beak. It looked like it was choking. As one of the guards made a move towards it, Link held him back.
"Wait a sec, I think I know what's wrong with it." He scowled as he walked towards the bird. So much for a good day. He noticed the bird wasn't moving from the window so he reached forward with his hand and petted the bird on the front of the beak. It was huge, with it's mouth big and powerful enough to snap his hand if it wanted. Link took a small breath and calmed himself as he touched the end of the birds beak. It looked at him with amber eyes and stopped squawking loudly but continued to make little choking noises in the back of it's throat. Looking at it, he continued to coax the bird to open it's mouth wide enough to look inside. There was something in there, and it was choking the poor thing. One of the guards made a nervous sound behind him but Link ignored it and continued to pull the thing out of the birds throat. He used his hand to feel for it...it felt soft whatever it was. He made a few tugs but it wasn't budging, he grunted in annoyance, this can't be good. He put his other hand in to get a better grip on it when he felt something that made him shudder, did this thing just...move? He tried not to take notice as he pulled one last time with all his strength, this time it came out quickly enough for him to topple backwards and whatever it was landed on him heavily.
The bird, noticing it's throat was clear gave a loud chirp and shook its head. Looking at the wet and seemingly furry thing that was now on his bare chest he gasped in surprise.
"Mia?!" Confused he picked the sticky thing off his chest and set it on the floor, Mia shook herself dry, splashing Link with some bird spit in the process. He groaned as Mia then decided to trot over to Link's bed and started licking herself clean. Mia was a Remlit, small and light brown, with darker shades of brown around her large bat-like ears and big puffy tail. She was also the royal family's beloved pet.
Just then Link's father came into the room, he was tall and had white hair with monobrow and matching beard, but his eyes were powerful and normally full with laughter, today though, they, along with the rest of his elderly face, where scowling.
"Link!" Gaepora said in his booming voice, "Are you ok?"
"Define ok," he mumbled as he watched Mia bounce off the bed and started rubbing herself on Gaepora's leg.
"Is he ok?" Said a voice filled with trepidation coming from the corridor. Gaepora spun round and yanked a terrified looking knight clad in yellow into the bedroom.
"And what do you have to say for yourself?" He snapped at him.
"Pipit? What are you doing here?" Link exclaimed.
Pipit hung his head shamefully, "I uh... I may have something to do with the bird smashing up your place."
Gaepora scowled at Pipit with a fierce look in his eye, "This young man," he said "has everything to do with this mishap. He barged in this place while I was taking a stroll to the breakfast hall when I caught him. He was reluctant to say at first but he seemed to want to find you, Link."
Link looked at Pipit in confusion, then at the bird still in the window. He face palmed, "This is your bird? Only an idiot could achieve something like this," he sneered.
"It didn't quite go to plan," Pipit said with a lopsided grin. "He was only supposed to poke his head through the window and squawk loudly enough for you to wake up terrified."
"Well, you managed that," Link scoffed, "But how the heck did Mia end up halfway down it's throat!?"
There was an awkward silence in the room. Gaepora cleared his throat loudly. Pipit quickly looked at him and then at Link, sweating slightly. Pipit gulped and stammered, "Well I...was down in the courtyard to get my bird...and accidentally stepped on Mia who was sleeping under a tree. She started yowling and scratching me!" Link tried not to laugh as Pipit said this. "I ran up to my bird and managed to take off, we were heading towards your window Link, when Mia attacked me from above." He stopped and looked down at Mia, who was still standing next to Gaopora's leg, looking up at him, "Turns out the bugger can fly," he sniped. Gaopora cleared his throat again indicating for Pipit to continue, "Anyway," Pipit said, "I ended up falling off and hitting the front yard as Mia started attacking my bird and I guess ended up getting stuck in his throat. Sorry about that." He said guiltily.
Link sighed and looked at his friend, he punched him lightly on the shoulder. "You idiot."
I'm hoping to bring Link's character out a little better in the next chapter. And hopefully more of the story too. Thanks for reading and be sure to leave a review :)
