I don't own Blue Bloods

Frank watched his youngest as he interacted with his partner. No strike that his Fiancée. He was still mauling over everything Jamie and Eddie had said during the Dinner about how married partners wasn't against the rules. Thought that wasn't what was really on his mind. He looked at Eddie's hand and noticed no ring residing on her finger.

He thought of the ring that was upstairs in his room. As the family stood up to clear the table he looked at his son. "Jamie can I speak to you privately for a moment?"

Jamie looked at him "Sure dad." Jamie followed his dad into the living but not before giving Eddie's hand a squeeze.

"Son I was wondering about an engagement ring for Eddie. Did you want your mother's engagement ring back? I know you gave it Sydney but it's still your moms ring and I know she'd want you to have it."

"Of course, I want it." Jamie said. "Too me it doesn't matter that Sydney wore it and I don't think it will matter to Eddie either. It was mom's and I'm sure she would have adored Eddie."

Frank Smiled "I know she would. Come with me." He stood up and Jamie followed him up the stairs and into his room. Frank opened the top drawer of his dresser and pulled out the worn ring box. "I was a bit hesitant when I gave you this Ring for Sydney you were so young but now as I hand this ring over to you to give to Eddie well I know it's going to the right person. She's a great addition to the family. I am glad to call her my daughter."

"Thanks dad." Jamie said holding the box in his hands. It feeling so much heavier then the last time he held it but at the same time so much lighter. He knew he was making the right choice now. Unlike last time when he now knew he proposed because it was what was expected. Graduate law school get engaged. Only he'd changed his path and went into the academy and he was still changing his path now. Eddie would always be a part of that. Would understand him in a way that Sydney never could. She wanted the Harvard Lawyer. Not the beat cop. She never saw him. Eddie saw him and loved him flaws and all. He curved his hand around the box.

"I'm proud of you son." Frank said clapping him on the shoulder as father and son shared this one special moment thinking of past and future.
