Chapter one of my Recess and Stephen King's IT crossover. Hopefully better as it progresses please rate and review!
Third Street School 1996, the gang are in their fifth year of Elementary school, what they don't know is that something horrible is happening this year. No one can explain why or how this came to be or who it is to blame; all the gang knows is Miss Finster is their fifth grade teacher.
On October 13th a child by the name of Carrie Underwood was walking home from a friend's house one street away from her own at 5:30pm. Carrie was twelve years old, a sensible girl who knew to ring her mother before leaving her friend's house. However this would be the last trip Carrie ever made and never made it home.
She was walking down Christie Lane when she saw a clown standing on the street corner handing out balloons to the sky. The clown spotted Carrie from across the street, and as funny as she thought it looked she crossed the street anyway.
'Hello little girl. Would you like a balloon?' the clown asked. The clown had white face paint, big red lips, and orange tufts of hair coming out of either side of his head a silver suit with orange pom poms.
'Yes please Sir.' Carrie said. 'Excuse me little girl. Have you ever been to the circus?' the clown asked 'No Sir.' Carrie replied. 'What's your name little girl?' the clown asked her grinning his teeth 'Carrie…What's yours?' she asked the pale faced clown. His eyes darted around 'My name is Pennywise the clown…So now we know each other? Keerect?' Carrie nodded 'Somewhat.' Carrie replied.
She looked at how the clowns eyes were darting around and how the sun light was fading 'Well I better go…' she said turning on her heels 'Go? Without your balloon?' Carrie turned back 'Oh, I'll take a balloon.' Carrie replied. 'It floats Carrie, they all float…' Carrie went to take the balloon and Pennywise grabbed her hand. His grip tightened on the girls wrist, it felt as strong as one thousand men.
Carrie tried to scream, but not a sound came out. Her face went pale, her pupils expanded, the clowns mouth opened as wide as the width of her arm and had many sharp jagged teeth inside. Her heart was pounding as her arm entered the not a clown, but a monsters jaws. 'Ahhhhhhhhhh!' her screams faded into the night.
About five minutes later two high school students who had been on a study date at the library came around the corner and found the girl. 'Johnny! Get help!' Johnny, the boy ran to the nearest house half a mile away. A man last named Kelso appeared and met with the girl, Rhianna as she knelt next to the girls lifeless body.
Carrie's arm was missing, severed from its socket, a chunk of her neck looked like an animal had ripped it out. Her eyes were wide open. In her school back pack was her library card; Rhianna passed this to Mr Kelso when he made the phone call to the police on his cell phone.
By six pm, the cops were at Mr and Mrs Underwood's door breaking the terrible news. 'What sort of monster had done this to our baby?' Mr Underwood asked. Their two other children had been told to go to their rooms when the cops had arrived. 'We don't know Mr Underwood…There was no finger prints, nothing…No witnesses either. Only people that heard her scream were the two teenagers that found her…' Mrs Underwood broke down again. 'Find them…Whoever did this find them!' was all she managed to say.
The following day it was the news headline of town…
T.J. Detweiler a chubby kid with a huge personality approached his friends standing outside the front of the school waiting for him. 'T.J we were starting to get worried man.' Vince said looking anxious. T.J tilted his head in confusion 'What you mean man? I always turn up around seven forty five.' The others looked at him blankly.
'T.J have you seen the news recently?' Gretchen asked T.J tried not to laugh 'Good one guys…Me paying attention to news pfft.' Spinelli looked at him concerned 'T.J read this.' She said handing him the newspaper. The headline 'Child Found Mutilated', T.J read on it was the third this month. 'Far out…Haven't the police found this guy?' Gretchen the smartest of the group looked at her five friends 'We have to be together at all times…My mom told me this morning she won't let me leave the house unless you guys are in a group more than three.' T.J observed the seriousness on all of their faces.
'How come my parents didn't tell me?' T.J asked 'Because you don't listen when they do.' Mikey suggested and he nodded 'You're right…So let's go to class…' they ventured into the hallways of Third Street School. All of the children were talking about the news and how they hoped no one from their own school was next. The victim Carrie Underwood had attended Fifth Street elementary and was a sixth grader. To kids younger than sixth graders, sixth graders were seen as untouchable.
The gang observed the panic in people's voices and knew whoever this person was meant to harm children. They wondered into class, most people in the class were gossiping. One however, was at the front quivering.
Randall, the school snitch was sitting at the front of the class room like usual 'Hi guys…' Randall said sounding sheepish, usually he was over confident. He was more hunched than usual. 'What's wrong with you?' Spinelli asked 'Spinelli, you're fists don't scare me…Not today anyway.' Randall began 'Why?' he turned around in his chair 'I can't tell you guys…' Miss Finster walked in the room and they all silenced.
'Okay, I've been told to by the Mayor that I have to give you this message so you all better be paying attention. By order of the District all children under eighteen years of age are to be at home by no later than 6:30pm. Any questions?' she scanned the room through her glasses 'Well, I guess you all know why then…' as hard as a person Miss Finster could be, she actually looked scared…Worried even. She sat at her desk and observed her class 'If anyone's sick, please tell the school immediately otherwise we'll assume things have happened.'
At 10am they were allowed out for recess, the gang met up with Randall. 'Okay Randall spill.' Spinelli said as soon as they got down the stairs. 'Yeah, tell us what you know.' Gus said pushing his glasses off the end of his nose.
'Okay, okay but, don't think I'm mad alright?' they all nodded. 'I was walking home from school yesterday…Alone because you know I've got no friends?' they all nodded again not taking their eyes off of him. 'Well I was walking past the Fifth street Park and I heard this voice. It was calling me…' he gulped 'What happened next?' Gus asked covering his ears as if he was listening to a horror story.
'Well I went to the fence of the park and saw no one around. I was about to keep walking when I saw a man in a trench coat…Only I don't think he was a man…Well an alive one anyway…' all of their eyes widened 'His skin was blue, his neck looked like he'd been slashed up really bad with broken glass and he was calling me. He was saying to go with him, otherwise he was going to chase me home and kill me…I figured I'd be dead either way. So I ran!' Randall broke down in tears 'Did he follow you?' T.J managed to ask 'I have no idea I just ran till I got home. I didn't tell my parents…' Mikey put a hand on Randall's shoulder.
'Why didn't you tell them?' Randall looked up from his hands 'Because who would believe a kid? You guys know that…They'd think you had too much sugar or something…' they all nodded 'You're right Randall…No one believed us last summer when they tried to move the moon…Till something happened…' the others gulped knowing if this was the case…Something bad would have to happen for the adults to realise.
The gang looked at each other than at Randall 'Randall, I can't believe I'm saying this…But, walk home with us this afternoon…You're not the best guy, but not that bad you should be killed over…' T.J was still in shock, he couldn't possibly imagine how Randall must've felt. T.J took off his red baseball cap and put it over his heart and shook Randall's hand. 'No guys gonna attack anyone on my watch.' T.J said and the others knew he was serious.
So that afternoon the others kept their word and walked home with Randall. They had walked past the park but, hadn't seen anyone. 'This is where I saw him.' Randall said pointing at a clearing between some trees. 'It looks spooky without the guy being there.' Gus said and Vince nodded 'There's a reason kids haven't gone to this park recently…I can feel it.' He shuddered.
'Let's keep walking then fella's.' T.J said and they continued on, still looking over their shoulders. 'Thanks guys, get home safely.' Randall said wiping his hands on his pants from the nervous sweats he was getting.
'Anytime.' Vince said shaking his hand.
The gang then dropped Gretchen home, then Vince, Mikey and Gus leaving only T.J and Spinelli to think about it. They lived a few houses down from each other so T.J said he'd take Spinelli home. 'Teej I don't need you to play bodyguard.' She said punching him softly in the arm. 'Spinelli, I am your best friend. I owe it to you.' She nodded 'Alright.' Spinelli looked at her boots, thinking if she should get a new pair eventually.
She looked up at T.J and saw he was thinking, she knew he was thinking about the killer and she knew he didn't want any of his friends if he could help it being next.
'So do you think he was making it up?' Spinelli asked sceptically. 'No…A guy doesn't joke about those things.' T.J answered and put his arm on Spinelli's shoulder 'Would you?' she asked 'No.' T.J replied, and if the Prankster Prince wasn't willing to joke about something like that, no one else would.
T.J knocked on the Spinelli's door 'Thanks man.' She said hugging him goodbye. Her mother answered the door 'Hi T.J would you like to stay for dinner?' Flo asked 'No thanks Mrs Spinelli. Mum's making Italian food tonight, I wouldn't want to insult her by having dinner at a real Italian's place.' She smiled 'Well you're welcome anytime.' She went inside 'Seeya Teej.' Spinelli said about to close the door 'Seeya Spin.' She closed the door and T.J made his way up the street to his own house.
He wasn't paranoid but, when he got to the door he double checked no one was in the street that he didn't know and went inside to do his homework and help his mother with dinner. He was safe and to T.J there was no place safer than home.
