Summary: [Based on a Tumblr prompt] A modern day Rose and Jack confess their love for each other, in true modern day style. Over text. Of course, texting never did run smoothly. Jack/Rose AU ONESHOT.
AN: Fun fun fun little prompt about Jack and Rose, with a little mention of Helga and Fabrizio in there too. Enjoy.
DISCLAIMER. I do not own Titanic. Or the emoji system.
Prompt: Imagine your OTP isn't dating yet. Person A has the habit of just using emojis whenever they're tired. Person B confesses that they love A over text, and A, now super tired, accidentally uses a sweating emoji or laugh emoji or mad emoji, then passes out from being too tired. A wakes up the next morning and sees B texted back "K sorry I hope we can be friends still", so A freaks out and goes "WAIT NO I LOVE U 2 IM SORRY".
Rose?
Yh? Blinking against the bright light of the screen of her phone, Rose burrowed further under the covers, trying to keep warm. Thick snow had been falling over Chippewa Falls for the past three days, and the temperature had been dropping with it since. Whilst the daytime novelty of snow days off from school and having snowball fights with her friends in the park, the nights were bitterly cold, especially in Rose's two bedroom home; Jack had always joked that Rose's house was the only relic left over from the Ice Age, and that anyone who stopped by to visit the Dewitt Bukater family would leave with hypothermia. Jack, who now insisted on keeping her awake until all hours of the morning with his insistent texting. If she didn't have that not-so-little crush on him, she would have been sound asleep at least an hour ago.
I have something to say but I dunno how.
Rose hit the confused emoji, rubbing her eyes. All the excitement of the past fifteen hours was catching up with her; her eyes were starting to feel heavy and sandpaper-like.
OK I'm just gonna say it.
She yawned. Cool. Her eyes were only half open by this point. She hoped that this was important, and not Jack just asking for help on his biology paper (which was very likely). Maybe Fabrizio and Helga had finally gotten their act together? Possibly. Maybe Cal had finally found someone and was going to leave her alone? Unlikely. Maybe fish have started pouring from the sky, she thought sleepily. That sounds like something Jack would say. Maybe he's going to try and convince me to go fishing with him tomorrow. He's not likely to go by himself after he fell in the water that one time... Her phone vibrated next to her ear, snapping her out of her thoughts.
I love u.
Despite the exhaustion that clouded her mind, a smile flitted across her features. Unable to write out a coherent response, she hit the nearest icon, before her eyes fluttered closed and her head hit the pillow. It seemed only a few seconds later before her alarm was ringing noisily in her ears, signalling the start of another glorious snow day in the park. Rose swung an arm out of her duvet nest to shut off the noise, realising she was still clutching her phone in her hand. Pushing her long red curls out of her eyes, she squinted at the screen. One text, from Jack. Probably a reply to the rest of their conversation. Their conversation. Jack's declaration of love. Her face broke out into a grin. How was she going to wait the next two hours before she was expecting to see him again? Maybe she should sneak round early and surprise him? She should text and see if he was awake yet or not.
OK. Sorry. I hope we can be friends still...
Wait, what?
Suddenly frantic, she scrolled back through the rest of their conversation. In her sleepy haze, she'd sent the wrong face. Now it looked like she was angry with him. She wasn't angry with him! Far from it!
WAIT NO I LOVE U TOO I'M SORRY!
The reply came almost instantly.
Really?
Yes! She started laughing, despite herself, a happy high-pitched chuckle. See you in half an hour? X
Nothing would make me happier X
Gotta love Jack. Jack's just adorable. Why did Titanic have to end the way it did?
