For those of you reading, I'm actually new to the X men series, just got into the TV series and it led to a fanfiction, so if anything is wrong, mispelled, or out of character, please tell me. I do not own the X men, though I'd love to steal Nightcrawler or Quicksilver! XD On we go!

"Nikki Hawthorne!" A dictating voice crashed through the fantasy I'd been absorbed in. Looking up from the page I was on, I saw that Mr. Andrews had noticed that I wasn't paying attention to the Geometry lesson he was so graciously giving. In fact, the very tall, very strict, and very balding man in front of me was red with anger. Snatching the book out of my hands, he crossed his arms and glared down at me.

"This is the fifth time this week that I've caught you reading while I am teaching!", he stated angrily.

"So?", I asked in a dull voice. It's not like he had been going out of his way to make the class more exciting. My classmates around me started giggling at my response. In my head I knew that they were all just laughing because of the disrespect to a teacher, not for any other reason. I was the invisible person in the back of the classroom usually.

The laughter only fueled the fire, as he raised his voice, "So? I believe you're failing this class, aren't you? Shouldn't you be more preoccupied with learning instead of reading?" A small vein was starting to appear on his temple, so I bit down on my sarcastic remark.

"Yes Mr. Andrews, I should be learning instead of reading." My pride was already as low as it could get in this school, bending to the will of a teacher wasn't really that humiliating.

This didn't stop him from punishing me though. "I'm giving you a detention, if I see you reading again, it's going to be a week's worth." He went over to his desk and pulled out a pad of pink slips. I groaned, "Can I at least have my book back at the end of class?" He glared at me.

"Tomorrow, I wouldn't want your other teachers to be denied your attention either." To prove his point, he opened the drawer of his desk loudly and put my book in it. After shutting it, he went back to the front of the room. "Now where was I before Miss Daniels distracted me?"

One of my classmates answered him and before I knew it, his droning voice was making me lay my head down on my desk. The students around me either did the same or went back to taking notes. I sighed heavily, now I was stuck being bored for a half and hour. I closed my eyes to let my mind take me somewhere other than there.

A tapping on my desk woke me up from my nap, and I was surprised to see that it was the end of class. The person tapping was a random girl, one who looked popular to where she shouldn't have been associating herself with the likes of me. She was wearing a Aeropostale shirt with a ruffled skirt and her light brown hair in a pig tail, looking ready for a photo shoot.

I had always been a grouch when I woke up, and being awakened by someone like her didn't help.

"Hey, class is over", she proceeded to tell me, and I glared at her heatedly. Immediately she looked nervous and edged towards the door. I waited to stand up until she actually hit it with her back and scrambled out. That was one thing that I had going for me, I could give a singeing glare. Light green eyes with brown centers, they were normal, but I tended to wear black eyeliner, and it made them more unnerving. Plus it helped that I had shoulder length, wavy, black hair, had two spikes coming out of my bottom lip, was wearing a form shaping black shirt with holes in it and baggy gray jeans, the entire look of a person who didn't like company.

"You know, you'd have more friends if you didn't act so antisocial." Mr. Andrew's voice floated over from where he was seated at his desk. My glare went over to him. "What makes anyone think that I want any friends?", I asked, my voice dangerously calm.

Then I remembered, he had my book. It wan't a special book, just something about the religon of Wiccans, but the point of it being mine and it being in his possession made me want it. Angrily I looked him in the eye. Deep down, I wished I could convey how frustrated I was with him.

As if something clicked behind my eyes, something odd happened. I felt myself sinking into his mind! Instantly I heard a million voices, each speaking at once, making it hard to concentrate. It wasn't until I focused that I realized that they were all the same voice. They sounded like Mr. Andrew's voice.

He was planning his next class, another bunch that hardly paid attention to him. I caught a snippet of a thought, "As if one class of neanderthals was good enough, I have another three today." This was bizarre, and it was quickly becoming frightening, all I wanted was my book back, instead I was peering into my teacher's mind!

Immediately at the thought of my book, I watched, mesmerized, as his hand reached out to his drawer, open it, and pulled my property out. He handed it to me, and I took it, my hand shaking. I quickly looked away from him, very scared. This wasn't something normal.

"I can't believe it, I think I just influenced my teacher to give me my book back!" My mind was on overdrive from the turn of events.

"Anything wrong Miss Hawthorne?", he asked me, almost like nothing had happened. I stared at him and found that he was as calm as ever. Didn't he feel me reading his mind or make him give me my book back?

"Nothing, thanks for the book, I've got to go", I quickly spat out and ran out of there. Shoving my way through the crowds of people, I finally made it into the girl's bathroom. Seeing that it was empty, I leaned against one of the sinks. Glancing up at my reflection, I saw that my eyes had changed dramatically.

They were glowing, a pale jade light that had flecks of gold in it. No, not glowing, projecting. The jade light was actually pouring from my eyes, and the gold flecks were actually floating in front of me. I passed a hand through it, only to find that the specks and light had no substance to them.

"What the hell's happening to me!", I thought frenziedly in my head.

"What is it? Another kid to recruit?", Logan asked gruffly, walking behind Professor Xavier, staring at Cerebro's screen. A map of lower Pennsylvania showed a red X at one spot. The glow of the screen bounced off the metallic walls of the chamber they were in.

"Yes, it looks like another mutant has been detected, a Miss Nikki Hawthorne", Xavier murmured, he touched a few buttons and the screen changed. This time it showed a profile of a teenage girl with black hair and dark clothes. Her eyes had an arrow connected to them, pointing to a paragraph that surmised that the location of her powers were her eyes.

"It would seem that she has the ability of telepathy and mind control" Xavier studied the screen a little more.

Logan sighed, "So who's gonna go and get her?"

"Take Jean and Nightcrawler, it seems that they are the most effective at reasoning with the new mutants, and this one seems a little distressed, as they usually are", Xavier paused, "Watch out though, from Cerebro's calculations, she seems to be just developing these powers, who know's how strong she is."

"Yeah, yeah, we'll be back in a few hours", Logan left to find Jean and the Nightcrawler, while the Professor sent the cordinates of the girl's location to the X Van.
