Title: Endless Highways
Author: HalfshellVenus
Characters: Sam, Dean (Gen, Poem)
Rating: K+
Summary (post-Apocalypse AU): Where the universe is infinite, the end is never definite.
Author's Notes: obeetaybee asked for a very specific birthday drabble that somehow led to this—not a drabble, not the pairing, and probably not at all what she was looking for. But once started, it needed to be finished.
Also for writers_choice, this is "Journey."

Truckstops gone from highways spawned
in an age of expansion we never knew—
these ghosts echo from the stories that came before us,
after the West was won but before the world was lost.

In the years before the sky went dark
there were monsters/mountains/melodies
that still remembered how to change.

We had a history once of hardship
lived between stolen breaths and shards of daylight,
when words were weapons
and the power of silver
stronger and more precious than gold.

Now there is little left but emptiness and ash
and the glow of a distant horizon.
We ride into whatever future has survived
side-by-side, heads unbowed and the rest be damned.
