1.
Max and 99 went into a bohemian nightclub in Washington DC. They sat at a table close to the stage and ordered coffee.
A man sat at another table close to the stage.
"Max," 99 whispered," that's Leopold!"
"Wow, Leopold!," he whispered back. "Er, who's Leopold?"
"He's a KAOS agent."
"Oh, yeah! The chief says that a dancer here is passing information to KAOS."
"Right, Max."
The coffee came, and they ordered their meal. They were entertained by a Dylan-esque folksinger."
And then the dancer appeared. She was introduced as Sinda. She was barefooted, and wore a short toga-like frock. She performed a modern dance routine accompanied by taped electronic music. Her performance lasted about four minutes. Soon after she left the stage, Leopold also left.
"Did you see that, Max?"
"Yes. She was good."
"No, I mean Leopold. He left as soon as she finished."
"Oh, yeah!"
"I didn't see her pass anything to him, did you?"
"No. Perhaps it was that strange music they played."
"Maybe. Or perhaps it was the girl's body movements."
"Yes, she had nice body movements!"
"Max! I mean maybe she made signals, through her dance moves."
"I see."
"I've got an idea: We can film her the next time she performs. I can use my special purse camera."
"Great idea, 99."
2.
Her next performance was a couple nights later. Once again, Max and 99 sat at a table close to the stage, and once again Leopold took a nearby table.
The opening act, this time, was a female artist. She took her shoes off, walked into a pan of red paint, and then walked on a canvass that was on the floor with her paint-covered feet. She often went back to the pan to get more paint. When she finished, the audience cheered.
"New artists have some strange ideas about painting!"
"They do, Max!"
And then, Sinda came out. Her music was the same, and so was her outfit, but her dance was quite different, this time. And as before, Leopold left as soon as she finished.
"Did you get it all?"
"I think so, Max."
"Great!"
3.
The next day, they processed the film and watched it.
"It's very professional."
"Yes it is, Max."
"It's in color, and there's even sound. I'd like some popcorn!"
She smiled. "Max! Now, watch the girl closely. Do her movements show some kind of pattern, to you?
He watched. "Now really. How about you?"
"There's something. . . I can't quite put my fingers on it."
The film came to an end. They rewound it and watched it a couple more times.
"I've got it, Max! It's her feet!"
"Her feet?"
"Yes. See the way she wiggles her toes, while dancing?"
He looked closely. "I can't quite tell."
"I'll show you, Max."
She took her shoes off and mimicked some of the foot and toe movements Sinda was doing.
"I see what you're saying, 99! So, how do we break the code?"
"Let's see if 54 is available. He's our code expert."
"All right."
A couple hours later, with 54's help, they broke the code.
4.
Once again, they went to the club. This time, they sat in a back table. And once again, Leopold was there, in the front.
After the opening act-the folksinger-Sinda appeared. However, shortly after she began, Max and 99 got up and got onstage.
"Stop the show!," said Max. "We are agents from CONTROL, and we are arresting Sinda and Leopold for spying!"
Leopold quickly pulled out a gun. But Max also pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest! The audience screamed.
"It's all right, everyone, the forces of niceness once again prevail!"
99 grabbed Sinda and Max went over Leopold to help him up. (He was still alive.)
"How did you figure me out?," asked Sinda.
"We deciphered your foot movements, honey!," 99 said.
They took them away.
