Loneliness

Her hands flitted to open the doorknob.

She stepped into a house of darkness and emptiness. She felt about for the switch, hoping that by turning on the lights, the brightness would liven up the atmosphere. Perhaps, she wouldn't feel so lonely. Yet it didn't help.

Her keys fell to the table and she went for a bath, soon readied for the night. In her purple silk gown, she laid on the king-sized bed. Looking at the empty space by her side, she felt a sudden pang of loneliness. How she missed having someone beside her at night, her bidding her goodnight and someone planting a little kiss on her forehead. Her hands moved instinctively to caress her forehead.

She never minded having him around. In fact, as much as she hated to admit, she enjoyed his company. She did irrevocably claimed that she loved solitude several times, but those were never her heartfelt thoughts. He knew it, she felt it too. He brought about warmth and love to her that no one else could, and melted her icy cold heart. Now that she had gotten used to a companion, he left her all alone.

"How could he leave me all alone? Why did he have to go?" she mumbled softly. Maudlin thoughts ran through her mind and she couldn't stop it from coming. Her heart ached and her vision blurred. She refused to let any tears fall off her eyes, but it was hard.

For if she did know that he would had left her so early, she would never had spoken of loving seclusion. She opened up her heart for him, yet he left it hanging. She could never feel completed for, probably, ever. Without his presence, she felt so lost, so empty, so alone. She was gradually losing her mind to forlornness.

Loneliness sank in and slowly devoured her. "I'm so lonely," she said to no one in particular, with a melancholic feel attached to her words as it sounded through the room. She turned to her bed table to switch off the lamp, only to see her wedding photo.

Looking almost lovingly at the photo, she gently mumbled, "Goodnight, love."

The room darkened.

Yet another night of loneliness.

The End
