Summary: Glinda reflects on Elphaba one cold winter night.

It was another cold wintery night in Oz. The wizard was gone and Madame Morrible was in jail. Glinda sat in a chair in her blue dress and was staring into the fire. It had been weeks since that infamous night that Elphaba had melted. Glinda couldn't put it out of her head. It haunted her dreams. Her friend was gone. Glinda started to cry as she held the ancient book of spells against her chest, the grimmary. Elphaba's hands once touched this very book of spells.

"What would I give to see her one last time," Glinda cried.

She sunk back into her chair and remembered the first time she met Elphaba. Glinda had made fun of her green skin, just like all of the others. One might say she was a bit cruel towards her. But over time that would change. It was when Madame Morrible told Glinda that Elphaba had wanted to include her in her private lessons. Glinda shuddered when she thought of Madame Morrible. If it weren't for that horrible woman, Elphaba might have still been around.

It wasn't in Glinda's nature to hate anyone, but she hated Madame Morrible.

And the wizard! How could he harm his own child? This confused Glinda to no end. Surely the wizard would have known the child was his, because he was supposed to know all. The wizard was an absolute phony in Glinda's eyes. It took all this time for her to finally realize it. She should have listened to Elphaba all those years ago.

Her thoughts returned to Elphaba. Although she was hiding when Elphaba had melted, she could still hear Elphaba's screams. "I miss you Elphie," Glinda cried.

Chistery the monkey with wings came waddling into the room and nuzzled Glinda's arm. "You miss her too," Glinda whispered.

Chistery nodded and waddled off to some bookshelf. He returned a moment later with a picture of Glinda and Elphaba when they first came to Oz. Glinda took the picture and said, "Thank you."

She stared at the picture for a long time. They both looked so happy. They were so young, so innocent. Glinda turned over the picture and saw there was a note from Elphaba on the back. It read:

Dear Glinda,

By the time you read this, I will probably be gone. I can hear the pounding on the door. They are here. Please promise me that you will take care of yourself. You were/are one of my best friends in the whole world. I wish I could tell you that everything will be all right. I know you are probably very sad right now. But no matter what, you are always in my heart, and you will always be there. Remember, if you ever need me, look to the west.

Love, Elphaba.

Glinda held the picture close to her heart and refused to let it go. She walked outside to the balcony and looked at the sky. She turned her head to the west and whispered, "I love you Elphie. I wish you were here."
