Kate burst into the room, Castle trying to keep up with her. When she stood next to the dead body on Lanie's table, she gave her one rather annoyed glance.
"What's up, Beckett?" she asked, nodding a silent 'hi' to Castle, who grimaced and waved at her. His facial expression told her that something was really wrong and when she looked at Kate, she knew that she had something to say.
"Why didn't you answer any of my calls last night? It was important!" Kate was in fact furious. She knew that Lanie had a private life just like all the others on her team, but she could've at least answered one of her calls.
"Well, to be honest," Lanie began "there is one thing I need to tell you. Should've told you all along, actually."
"Then tell me. It can't be that bad." Kate insisted. She had totally forgotten about Castle who was now standing next to her. Whenever one of them spoke, he'd turn his head to look at them, which made it look like he was watching a tennis match.
"KATE! I'm never answering another one of your phone calls – ever!"
She couldn't quite make out what Beckett was thinking. Her expression had changed from anger, to confusion, to disbelief and back to confusion again. Even Castle seemed rather confused now and gave her a look that basically said 'now tell us what's wrong'.
"Don't look at me like that, Castle! It's just as much your fault as it is hers!" Lanie exclaimed.
Castle mouthed a silent 'what?' and shared another confused glance with Kate before Lanie continued.
"You keep pocket-dialing me and I can hear you and Castle having sex," she dropped the bomb. "That, girlfriend, is something I don't need to hear."
Silence. Kate, as shocked as she was, was unable to move. She opened and closed her mouth like a fish on dry land, desperately trying to find something appropriate to say. Castle on the other hand had that proud grin all over his face. Suddenly Beckett turned around and stormed out of the room.
Castle shrugged, grinned at Lanie, who just shook her head, and ran out of the room yelling "Kate! Kate, wait!"
Lanie had to laugh. Her friends and co-worker really were unbelievable. She went to the door and saw Kate walking down the hall quickly, being followed by Castle, who was trying to make her slow down.
"It's cute how you two do that," she yelled after them.
End.
