This is a one shot set during the countdown episode.
-Confessions-
They were currently standing in front of a nuclear bomb in the back of a van in New York trying to defuse it. Kate was holding the cell as she and castle both heard Agent Fallon repeatedly saying, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry." They had 1minute on the clock before the bomb blew most of New York to Hell. Castle looked at her with a sad face, their eyes expressing deep emotion between them that were unresolved.
He grasped her hand and looked at her solemnly, "Oh hell with it, I'm going to just come outright with this", he paused. "I love you, more than any other woman I've ever met in my life. I've been in love with you for over 2 years".
Kate shocked at the confession; she opened her mouth to respond but was cut off with his lips crashing onto hers. She responded in kind with even more energy into the kiss.
He pulled back, "It's always been you, only you. I love you, know that."
He squeezed her hand tightly before grabbing the wires to the bomb and yanking with determination. They came out, sparking as they did, but they came out. As he did, both of them closed their eyes in anticipation.
There was no thunderous explosion, release of radiation, just nothing. There was a moment of silence as they looked at the bomb, only to see the timer frozen on the zero mark. Then it hit them, they were alive!
"Oh… heh" he smiled a sigh of relief. They launched at each other giving a tight bear hug. They held each other tightly before letting go. When they pulled back they were all smiles and happy to be alive.
After a moment, he just stared at her in fear that she might run, because of his confession.
"You ok", he asked with concern etched on his face.
Kate bit her lower lip before saying, "I love you too, you crazy fool". He gave a surprised laugh before kissing her senseless.
She pulled back with a smile, "Just wondering, how did you know which wire to pull"?
He looked at her sheepishly and looked at his hand to show here the bundle of wires that he pulled, before dropping them to the ground.
"I just knew that one of them had to be it… I couldn't just sit there without trying to stop it".
She smiled whilst shaking her head at him, "I love you but, come here you handsome fool". She grabbed his neck and kissed him until they couldn't breathe. When they came up for air, rick just looked at her with that handsome boyish smile.
"Does this mean we're together, like boyfriend and girlfriend real"?
Kate was interrupted, when Ryan and Esposito came up asking what was going on. She just looked at him and answered his question by interlinking their hands and hugging his side as they walked toward the group of cop cars. They both walked toward their future together as lovers.
