AN: There's a theory that Rey's staff is partly built from several lightsabers, including that of Darth Maul's and Mace Windu's. In this fic I'm toying around with the idea. Since she's very powerful in the force, maybe some sort of an imprint left in these weapons draws her in? And how did they end up on Jakku? This was originally a quick one-shot I did to find Rey's character, and I'm still unsure if I have energy to continue it.

Two big, twisted metal plates screeched violently against each other as they were slowly dragged apart. They were grazed by sand, rusted and generally worthless looking. Normally, Rey would've moved on, but she had a feeling that there was something valuable underneath. As if something was pulling her, giving her strength.

Finally, the plates were wide apart enough to reveal a metal stick underneath. Rey felt a burst of disbelief and disappointment. She had been sure the pile underneath was huge from the looks of it. The stick was roughly the length of her forearm, and it had a button. A door handle, maybe?

Before Rey could reach it, a huge wave of salty water hit her and filled her mouth and lungs. She could see the wall of the rusty hull before she hit it..

Her heart pounding, Rey's eyes flashed open. Her lips tasted like salt, and she was sweaty all around. The sun had probably risen just a moment before, heating her home, the empty shell of a once mighty AT-AT to unbearable temperatures.

She had wiggled out of her rope, naked and slimy. Disgusting. What made her feel even more nauseous was that dream. She had been going through it in her mind for days, and every night it came back. Only that when in the dream, no matter how hard she tried, she didn't know she was dreaming. She couldn't control it. Same thoughts, same actions over and over again, night in, night out. As if someone was playing a film in her head, toying with her. Only this time she had gotten far enough to see what was under the plates.

"A door handle?" she repeated her thought and wiped her body to a shawl she usually wore around her body to protect her from the sand. Water was a scarce resource, and there was no point washing out sweat, especially since she had a full day's work ahead of her.
