PROLOGUE | Setting the Board

Three strange occurrences shook Teikou Middle by its core.
First off, the most feared and revered captain in the school's history had disappeared. When this case was taken to the police, it was met with no success.
Second, a sweet girl named Mai's rotting corpse had been found stuffed inside the school's mascot costume. The school had closed down for a month. Two months later, the school reopened with its attendance count the lowest it's ever been—parents, it seems, don't approve of sending their children off to a school where students are killed or go missing. Five months later, with absolutely no lead or suspect, the case was declared cold.
Third, following the two incidents, the gym where the basketball team was completely trashed. The gym was promptly cleaned up, although like the Mai case, no leads or suspects could be found.
Now, it's been a year since these incidents have occurred.
To this day they have all been unsolvable.
