Rain
She rose slowly from her crouched position next to her fallen brother; small wisps of smoke still rising from the sleeve of his blackened shirt. The Avatar gripped the boy by his shoulders and called his name, pulling for a response that was not going to come.
I smirked. Serves him right.
Her eyes were trained on me. She stretched a hand toward the boys on the forest floor. "Aang, take Sokka and go." The Avatar's eyes grew wide, tears spilling over his lids.
"But Katara…"
A crack of thunder, then the rain started to fall on the clearing where we were standing.
"Go." The rain fell harder, as if that one word was pulling it from the sky. A gust of wind circled us and the Avatar and the brother were gone.
"Bitch," I breathed. "You think you stand a chance?" The words seemed lost in the drops that fell between us. Her eyes almost seemed to glow. They were a blue like I've never seen. Her posture was rigid, her hands held together in a prayer like gesture.
It was then I started to hear the rain. I heard it as it hit the trees around us, leaves snapping from branches. I heard it hit my skin; I felt it hit my skin. Each drop of water stung like a little water whip. It was also then that I saw the full moon sneaking glances from behind the rolling clouds.
Shit. This is not good.
I pushed all I could into the flames in my hands, willing them to stay ablaze under the natural water assault. I dropped and plunged my fist into the static space between us, throwing an angry fire orb at the water witch. As soon as it left my hand it was enveloped in a sheet of water and extinguished. I glared at the girl with as much intensity as I could muster, but was taken aback. Where as I was dripping wet, she was perfectly dry. I cursed under my breath and tried another fireball only to see it taken out the same as the first.
The girl's head ticked slightly to the left and her arms dropped to her sides. The rain around us stopped and hung in long ice threads in the air. I blinked and was hit by one of the frozen drops. A small dot of blood rose on my arm where the ice had hit me. I roared in anger and tried to raise my fists but soon found myself staring at the sharp ends of hundreds of small ice daggers.
One by one the rain weapons flew at me, hitting my armor, grazing my skin, knocking me back until I fell. I could feel blood slowly trickle down my cheek as I struggled to stand against the torrent of rain. I closed my eyes willing strength to my limbs.
Move! Get up! Don't let some water peasant beat you!
The battering stopped and I opened my eyes once again to hundreds of points. I breathed hard trying to find a way out. I heard footsteps coming closer and the tinkle of ice knocking into ice. My eyes focused on the girl as she moved closer, the ice curtain separating for her with each step.
She stopped in front of me and stooped down, her blue eyes never leaving my own. She brought her face a breath from mine and searched my bleeding face. Before I could snap her lips crashed into mine.
They were like ice moving across my mouth, and I didn't know how to respond. Her kiss was commanding and I could only do what she asked. As quickly as it began, the kiss ended. She pulled back just enough for me to see her eyes once more.
"Leave, Zuko." Her voice was merely a whisper. As the gears in my head started to turn once more she stood and left, disappearing into the woods.
The rain started to fall again and I tipped my head back to once more see the moon retreat back behind a shapeless black cloud.
This was about to get interesting.
Sorry if this is a little choppy, I'll most likely go back through and iron out some things, but what do you think of it as it stands? I loved the idea of Katara fighting in the rain, and I'm a total zutara fan, so why not right? Anyway, leave me a review, honestly tell me what you think! Thanks for reading!
