Title: Game of Three
Characters: Gwindor, Finduilas, Túrin
Prompt: 050. it doesn't mean much; it doesn't mean anything at all
Disclaimer: Everything belongs to Tolkien. I created 'Nargothrondrim', 'the people of Nargothrond' (I haven't seen them described as such in any of the texts, at least), but since Gondolindrim and Doriathrim are in existence, I think it's acceptable.
Author's Notes: I'm sure that everyone knows Gwindor and Finduilas (also called Faelivrin, 'the gleam of the sun in the pools of Ivrin'), but Túrin seems to have as many names as Aragorn. When he first came to Nargothrond he called himself Agarwaen (Bloodstained), but the Nargothrondrim soon began to call him Adanedhel (Elf-man) because he was so like an Elf. He would not tell Finduilas his true name, so she called him Thurin (Secret), but Gwindor eventually revealed it to her.
Finduilas the daughter of Orodreth was golden-haired after the manner of the house of Finarfin, and Túrin began to take pleasure in the sight of her and in her company, for she reminded him of his kindred and the women of Dór-lomin in his father's house. At first he met her only when Gwindor was by; but after a while she sought him out, and they met at times alone, though it seemed to be chance.
– Unfinished Tales
Gwindor had been watching them for some time. There was a fountain in one of the eastern halls of Nargothrond, and on a bright day the sun would shine onto the water through a window cut into the wall. Finduilas liked to sit there in the mornings, and he smiled at the memory of sitting there with her, the sunlight turning the water gold to match her hair.
He had arrived to find Túrin, known as Agarwaen to most of the Nargothrondrim, sitting near the fountain seemingly deep in thought. Gwindor had been about to greet the man when he saw Finduilas approach Túrin and sit down beside him, and had retreated into the shadows near the wall. He felt a little guilty about watching them talk, although he was not close enough to hear their words, but he had been curious to see how they would interact.
Well enough, it seemed, for both were talking animatedly and Finduilas was smiling. When Gwindor moved into the light and they saw him walking towards them both smiled and welcomed him, but as he sat down and joined the conversation, he could not help feeling that he had somehow intruded on a private moment.
