I never intended to 'publish' this story… I know I'll probably regret doing so, too. Oh well, we need more Fuery fics.
I don't own FullMetal Alchemist or any of its characters. Fans would scream in horror if I did.
Kain Fuery had been taking his normal route to work, although a bit early, when he heard mewing coming from a tree. He looked up, only to see a tiny kitten stuck in a tree.
'Well, I am early… saving this little guy won't take too long…' he thought, excusing himself.
Getting up to where the kitten was wasn't much of a challenge. Neither was getting a hold on the kitten.
All was going well, until Fuery heard a snap, and then he felt himself falling. He cried out, thinking he was going to hit the ground, until he felt his military jacket get snagged on the branch that had just broke. While Fuery was relieved to find that he didn't hit the ground, he realized he couldn't jump out of the tree, because he couldn't get his jacket unhooked. Even if he could, he was too far from the ground to jump.
'Well, Havoc and Falman take this route, too, and they should be behind me today. All I have to do is wait for them,' Fuery thought, trying to remain optimistic.
"Mew."
Fuery looked at the kitten in his hands, "Sorry, but I can't put you down. You might get hurt or stuck again," he warned, "Besides, we need to find you a home," he smiled, picturing Black Hayate.
Meanwhile, Falman and Havoc were on their way to work, nearby where Fuery was.
"Look at that. It looks like someone in a military uniform's hanging from that tree," Falman observed, pointing to the tree Fuery was hanging in.
"You wouldn't think he's hanging himself?" Havoc asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Nah, we'd see a rope if he was," Falman replied, though he was just as confused.
"Havoc! Falman! It's me, Fuery! I'm a bit stuck!" Fuery called, upon identifying the voices he heard, "Could you lend me a hand?"
After exchanging funny looks, Havoc and Falman jogged over to the tree.
"You see, I was trying to rescue this kitten, who was stuck up here, but right when I was going to get back down, this branch snapped and it snagged my jacket when I was falling," Fuery explained, a bit amused at the situation himself.
"I'm afraid of heights," Falman said, as to excuse himself.
"Fine," Havoc complied, easily climbing up the tree. "Alright, this is the tough part," Havoc muttered, grabbing a tree branch with one arm, wrapping the other around Fuery, unhooking said person's jacket with his foot, and pulling Fuery up onto the tree branch.
"Thanks…" Fuery said shyly.
"Eh, we couldn't just leave you hanging there," Havoc replied, brushing it off as the two climbed out of the tree. "What do you plan on doing with that kitten?" Havoc asked, even though he was almost positive he already knew the answer.
"I was hoping someone in Central would take him, kind of like Black Hayate," Fuery replied, smiling as he looked at the kitten.
"Good luck with that," Havoc replied, shaking his head.
