I Left Something Here
Caroline Forbes fiddled with a string on the sleeve of her shirt as she walked up the front steps of the Gilbert house, secretly hoping to run into Jeremy there. As she began thinking of him again, she rang the doorbell. Formulating the excuse of missing some things she'd lent Elena, she waited for an answer at the door, rehearsing what she'd practiced to say in her head. Elena, hi! I was wondering if I could get a few things from you? Like that dress I lent you. Right, things like that.
The door of the home swung open before Caroline was done with her thought, leaving her looking blankly at Jeremy as he stood in the doorway. Once words finally came to her, she stammered a greeting. "Oh, Jeremy. Hi. I was looking for Elena. I'm here to get some of my stuff from her." She nodded matter-of-factly as she waited for him to call Elena down. "You can come inside, she might take a few minutes," Jeremy shrugged. Caroline smiled, "Oh, okay. Right." She shook her head at herself and stepped inside.
"What were you needing back?" Elena called from the top of the landing. "Umm, that purple dress I lent you, and the headband that goes with it," Caroline said, never taking her eyes off of Jeremy. "Okay," Elena replied, and headed back into her room.
Caroline watched Jeremy play his video game quietly for a few moments, then gave him a little smile. "What's the point of the game?" she asked, genuinely confused. Jeremy smirked up at her, teasing, "To win." Caroline rolled her eyes playfully, "No, but really." He laughed a bit and Caroline smiled more. "The point is to kill all the bad guys, then retrieve the materials for your next mission," Jeremy replied. Caroline scrunched her nose, "Oh. Sounds… lovely."
Jeremy laughed a little, "You sound so enthused." Caroline smiled guiltily and shrugged, "Enthused enough to watch you, that's about it." Jeremy nodded, "I'm okay with that. More for me." "Mmhmm," Caroline replied, looking him over a little. Jeremy paused his game, catching her eyes roaming his body, smirking a little as he turns to her. "So what's the sudden need for your dress and headband? Made up with Matt and have a date?" Caroline scoffed, "Umm, no. Definitely not. No, I just want to look my usual best. Y'know I'm Miss Mystic. I have to uphold that appearance." Jeremy nodded, "Riiight, yeah, I think I missed that one."
Caroline gasped, "No way! You didn't see? I thought you were at the pageant with that Anna girl." Jeremy's expression dimmed a little at the mention of Anna. "Oh right, Anna. Yeah, I was there, we didn't hear much about the winner though," he shrugged, "Congratulations." Caroline beamed at him, "Thanks." He nodded, "You make a good leader. All bubbly and happy, but still in charge of everything." Caroline gasped happily, "That's exactly what I was thinking! You sooo get it, Jeremy." Jeremy smiled at her a little, "Yeah, I guess so."
"Umm, I couldn't find the headband, but here's the dress," Elena called out to Caroline as she headed back downstairs. "I'll keep looking for it." Caroline nodded, "Oh, okay, thanks. I was most concerned about the dress, I can accessorize it other than the headband." Elena nodded quietly, waiting for Caroline to head back to the door. Caroline looked back at Jeremy, "Have fun with your mission… retrieval… killing game," she smiled. Jeremy laughed a little, "Yeah, have fun accessorizing your headband-less dress, Miss Mystic." She smiled wide at him and nodded, heading to the door, barely glancing at Elena. "Bye Elena." Elena watched after her, puzzled, "See you later, Caroline."
