Author's Note: I'm back with yet another story! I know I said my next update would be Broken Heart Mended, but I couldn't help it. And yes, it's a crossover...a crossover between Sweeney Todd and Alice: Madness Returns. If you have absolutely no idea what AMR is, then I would be happy to explain it to you. If you do know what AMR is, then you are my new best friend.
So... this is going to be a Sweeney/Alice fic, and takes place post-AMR and during the events of ST. Slight AU and goes beyond the movie.
*gets a weird look from people around me* What? She's got to figure out a good way to get over her demons!
Be nice guys, and enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Sweeney Todd or Alice: Madness Returns. Although, I totally wish I owned Sweeney...*sighs*
Prologue: Into Londerland
She had done it; she had ended her tormentor's life. Now Angus Bumby could no longer cause her or any other orphan harm ever again. He could no longer corrupt her mind into forgetfulness.
Through her rage, her epiphany, Alice Liddell had mustered up what strength she could summon and pushed the now former psychiatrist into an oncoming train. It helped that the man had all of a sudden become completely terrified of her.
Before his very eyes, she had transformed from the pretty, fragile woman he had been trying to corrupt to the strong, confident, and beautiful woman she was in Wonderland. Her black and white knee-length dress and dirtied apron melted away into a blue knee-length dress with a white apron with blood stains on it. Her once shaggy dark hair had grown longer and looked healthier. The pure black stockings she was wearing were now black and white striped, and her ankle-high boots were now all the way up to her knees, silver buckles lining the sides. Her pale skin now had a healthy glow and her eyes…once a pale green, now a vibrant, almost piercing green.
It was the last thing that Bumby saw before he met his demise.
Alice watched as the train continued to speed down the track. She curled her fists and that's when she remembered that she had swiped the key to her sister's room from Bumby just before she killed him.
The thought of what he had done to Lizzie…she didn't want to even think about it.
Satisfied that the doctor was good and dead, Alice headed up the stairs leading away from Moorgate Station and back onto the London streets.
Despite her triumph against Bumby and the Dollmaker, her mind was still in a fragile state. As she exited the tunnel leading back to High End Street, Alice noticed how reality and fantasy were clashing. Elements of Wonderland were twisting together and merging into London. The various dice and mushrooms lining the streets and tree roots growing out of the buildings created a peaceful atmosphere.
Alice knew it wouldn't last. She knew very well that the cruelty of reality would kick in at some point, but that didn't mean that she couldn't enjoy the calm before the storm.
Well-deserved vacation, if you ask me, she thought.
Alice made it to the end of the street when she heard the familiar purr of a particular feline.
"Ah, Alice," the Cheshire Cat said. "We can't go home again. No surprise, really. Only a very few find the way, and most of them don't recognize it when they do."
Alice rolled her eyes. Blasted cat! Always reciting the same cryptic nonsense.
"Delusions, too, die hard," the cat continued. "Only the savage regard the endurance of pain a measure of worth. Forgetting pain is convenient. Remembering it, agonizing."
She couldn't help but agree with what the Cheshire Cat was saying. She hated to admit it, but he was, of course, right.
"But recovering the truth is worth the suffering. And now our Wonderland, though damaged, is safe in memory…"
What the cat added next sent a chill through Alice's form, a chill she knew all too well.
"…for now."
