Chapter 1

Hellboy paced in his room in BPRD headquarters, growing impatient. He had read newspaper articles about strange killings in New York city, where the victim's corpses were almost always found impaled with strange spines that seemed to be filled with some sort of sedative. He had a hunch of what monster it was but he wouldn't know for sure until he saw it. His impatience was due to the fact that that it seemed that the preparations were taking forever. He had already packed. It took him only an hour to get all of his possessions together.

While on the Verazzano bridge, Liz heard some pings on the roof of their car and mentioned them to Hellboy. Leaning his head out of the window, Hellboy saw a monstrous creature with the head and body of a Lion, Dragon wings, and a barbed tail. Climbing out of the car, Hellboy sighed, just another typical day.

Dell Conagher, or better known to his employers as Engineer of Reliable Excavation Demolition, stood by his sentry, shotgun in hand. He could hear gunshots and shouting in the distance. As he stood there, he thought. He thought about making peace with BLU, he thought about a new business that could be made when the two warring teams joined, but most importantly, he thought "the administrator would kill me if she knew what I was thinking".

Suddenly, there was a flash of blue light and someone dressed in green armor was lying on the floor. Dell jumped backward, shotgun at the ready. He heard his sentry warming up. The figure stood up. Dell noticed that he was much taller than the average human, about 7 feet tall. The figure spoke "this is Master Chief Petty Officer John 117, I have appeared suddenly in what looks and sounds like a war zone, requesting immediate backup". Dell deactivated his sentry, moving forward cautiously. Immediately, he regretted the sentry's deactivation as the figure pulled a machine gun off of his back and pointed it at him.

Raising his hands and dropping the shotgun, Dell slowly backed up to the wall. The figure kept pointing his machine gun while speaking. He repeated what he had said earlier and with an exasperated grunt, stopped talking to what appeared to be thin air. He turned to Dell and said I am- yes, said Dell, I know who you are, I just heard you. Well, said the figure, I have some questions for you.
