The list

Kate sat on the warm sand staring out at the ocean. Her emotions had been running wild since their

kiss. She hadn't meant to run like that. It was something she had wanted to do since she had first

seen him, sitting asking for her help. But now, with all the feelings she had felt about sawyer over

the past few days, she had just felt even more confused. She knew that she had to choose one of

them but had no idea which one would be the right choice, which one she truly loved. With

Sawyer she felt relaxed and felt like she could be her true self, they were so alike that it didn't

matter what she did or had done. She imagined what her dad would have told her, how she should

always follow her heart, be happy. But how was she supposed to separate her heart from her brain,

how was she supposed to know which one was which. She knew that one was telling her to be

with sawyer, they were one and the same, deserved each other. But the other continued to remind

her that jack was the kind of guy she had always dreamed of.

Claire stopped beside her, Aaron in her arms, and sat. She followed Kate's eyes to the ocean and

stayed silent, waiting for Kate to open up. Kate felt her presence as she sat down, she didn't want

any company but hadn't the heart to tell her to leave. Kate started wondering if she should admit to

her confusion, maybe Claire could help her with the outcome.

"How am I supposed to know who to choose?" she asked turning her head to face the woman and

child beside her. She knew it sounded a bit shallow after it had been said but Claire didn't seem to

notice. She just smiled.

"When the time is right you will know!" she told her with a slight nod. Kate just stared at her

blankly. Claire laughed slightly and continued with "How about making a list?"

"What? I can't do that, it's wrong. What if they find out?" Kate replied. She didn't want to risk

loosing any of them. Maybe that was the problem. She didn't believe that she could be happy; as

soon as they were rescued her life was over.

"What are the bad things about jack?" Claire asked pushing her into sorting out the problem once

and for all. Kate breathed in a huge breath as she searched her mind. Bad things about jack. Bad

things about jack. Bad things about jack. How could this be so hard? She racked her brains.

"He… um he won't accept that I have secrets."

Claire nodded and gestured with her hand for her to continue.

"He doesn't look after himself and his hair needs a cut." Both Kate and Claire laughed at the last

one. Kate couldn't think of anymore and after a few minutes silence Claire asked about Sawyer.

Kate could only think of one thing to say.

"He isn't Jack!" Kate smiled as she stood up and walked towards the caves to finally try and patch

things up with him. They could make it work. They would be happy. Claire was right. The time was

now.
