A/N: Before you read... Estonia wears contact lenses at the beginning of this. I'm tired and am too lazy to go back and edit in something to detail that.
Enjoy! ^^
It isn't easy, being in love. Especially when the object of your affections also happens to be your best friend.
Estonia sighed as he glanced at the grand doors of the meeting room, hoping to see when Finland arrived. Sure enough, the doors opened and Estonia was able to see his friend walk in with a cheery smile. Meeting Estonia's gaze from across the room, the Finn smiled and waved at him. Happy that his friend had finally arrived, he returned the smile and waved back, opening his mouth to call out to him and ask if he'd like to sit beside him during the meeting. However, he felt the words die in his throat when he saw a familiar, tall figure walk in and put a hand on Finland's shoulder, immediately getting the smaller country's attention. Estonia sighed regretfully as he watched that familiar smile return to Finland's face. The same smile he got every time Sweden was around. He felt a familiar tightness in his chest as he watched his friend gently take the Swede's hand in his as he lead him to a pair of empty seats near the end of the table.
Jealousy.
He watched Sweden as he sat down with Finland at his side. What was so special about Sweden? What did he have that Estonia didn't? He wondered about this, then had the beginning of an idea. Maybe Finland would start to fall in love with him if he looked more like Sweden. The Swede was always so quiet and intimidating. Surely it wasn't his personality the Finn was in love with. It had to be the looks. Estonia felt his heart race with new hope. Maybe all this time, he had just needed a pair of glasses in order to catch his friend's attention. It was so simple... It couldn't hurt to try it.
Later, after the meeting had ended, Estonia stood in front of a mirror in his Hotel room. In his hand, he held a pair of glasses he has refused to wear for the last few centuries. With a sigh, he put them on and adjusted them, getting used to the new vision. He blinked a few times, wondering why he had stopped wearing them in the first place. His eyesight wasn't the greatest, and he had forgotten how clear things became with glasses. He checked himself out in the mirror and felt another swell of hope flutter about in his chest. Glasses suited him well. He only hoped that Finland would see it to, and maybe, realize that he belonged by his side, and not Sweden's.
