This is a one shot request from ortoncenabournegirl. Hope you like it. It is based on the song Saving Amy by Brantley Gilbert. Enjoy.
Randy stood in the darkened shadows of the room and looked over at Skylinn as she sobbed herself to sleep. It had been a year. A year since he'd placed the diamond ring that now shined in the moonlight on her finger. A year since the promise of their lives together began. And a year since it had ended just as quickly. He'd taken her home after he'd proposed, giving her a kiss goodnight and promising he'd come over for breakfast in the morning. He'd watched her walk into the house, so full of promise and hope for the future. He'd pulled to a stop just blocks from his house and waited for the light to turn green. The kid had come out of nowhere and before he'd had time to react, he'd already been shot. One single bullet to the head, that was all it took. It had taken him a while to realize what happened. To come to terms with the fact that he'd died.
He'd been trapped between worlds ever since. Roaming around watching her suffer. He wanted nothing more than to go to her and wrap his arms around her. Kiss her lips and wipe her tears away assuring her that everything was going to be okay. But he couldn't. All he could do was watch her, like he'd done for the last year, cry herself to sleep every night with his picture clutched to her chest. He'd paced her room night after night like a caged animal, his own guilt over leaving her eating at him like a cancer. Watching her,-tossing and turning in her sleep- surrounded by the love letters he'd written her over the years. He'd look at her, run to the side of her bed every time she'd call out his name. Things weren't supposed to be this way. God, how he wished he could let her know he was there. There was only one thing he could think of to do.
"God, please give her the strength to deal with this. Please let her know that she can make it through this. That I'll always be in her heart. That I'll always be with her, even if she can't see me. I know you can't save me. It's too late for that. But God, please save her. Please. I can't stand to see her suffer anymore."
Skylinn lay sleeping in her bed and Randy smiled a little to himself. It'd had been three years since his death and she'd gotten so much better. She'd stopped crying herself to sleep every night and she'd even managed to go back to work. He brushed his hand over her brown hair, his hand floating right through. He still came to visit from time to time. Still came to see her in her dreams. She was moving on with her life. And he couldn't ask for anything more. But he had promised her forever. And he was going to keep it. He was never going to be too far away. He had to make sure she was doing alright. She still had his heart. And when the time came, he'd be waiting for her when she walked through the gates of Heaven and was back in his arms where she belonged. He bent down and kissed her lightly on the cheek, smiling at the small sigh that escaped her lips and cast his eyes up toward the sky.
"Thank you for saving her." He whispered into the darkness of the room as he shrank back into the darkness of the room.
