Chapter 5

"Good morning Ray, John back yet?" Jocelyn says cheerily. Raymond simply looks up and shakes his head as he walks into his shared office.

"No and I don't expect him to return anytime soon. It's been a long time since he and Atticus have seen each other. He got a letter though," Raymond says while sitting down at his desk.

"Have you opened it?" Jocelyn asks this in an, almost, childish manner while twiddling her curly, brown hair. Raymond narrows his eyes with a crooked smile.

"If I have learned anything in working with a detective of John's standards is to never open his mail. He always knows when the seal has been broken," Raymond says this with a slight chuckle.

"How's his dog?" Jocelyn asks while leaning against the office door.

"Russet? I don't get how he puts up with that animal! He is always whining, and won't darn shut up! Then he won't eat…" Ray's hand roughly streaks through his smoky, grey hair. Jocelyn watches with a overconfident smirk. "What!" Raymond exclaims, his eyes wild with frustration.

"Maybe little Russet just really misses John, you ever thought of that?" she says slyly.

"Well why don't you take care of him miss know-it-all!" Jocelyn's eyes drift down towards her shoes, and Ray grins playfully. "Oh yeah, that's right, because you are always daydreaming about little Johnny!" he says teasingly. Jocelyn's dark brown eyes flick upward in alarm, and her mouth gaps open.

"Not true Ray! I don't love John!" she exclaims. Ray simply grins while offering a confident shrug.

"Never said you did… Hey, shouldn't you be filing the evidence?" he replies gruffly. Jocelyn crosses her skinny little arms, and turns to go to her own desk. Ray lifts his gaze for a moment staring at her perfect little curves. A mischievous smile stretches across his mouth, but quickly fades, remembering it would never work.
