Saving A Spy
Hermione, Ron, and Harry all sat outside of the tiny room listening to Voldemort berate Severus Snape. Hermione's eyes darted everywhere with concern. Harry and Ron didn't seem concerned though they did look interested. Voldemort believed that Snape was the owner of the elder wand. Hermione's mind raced back to the night that Harry had recounted to her hundreds of times by now. Draco disarmed Dumbledore, Draco owned the wand Severus was about to be killed for!
Hermione took Harry and Ron's arms and shoved them towards the stairs and when they refused Imperioed them up the stairs. She slid over to the door reached her leg out and grabbed her wand from its holster attached to the bottom of her leg. She held it at the ready and cracked the door open silently and peaked in. She listened to the exchange and marked where everything was in the room.
"Nigini!" Voldemort called. Hermione's eyes widened as she realized she had missed the deadly snake in the room. It was striking towards Severus's throat and Hermione kicked the door open. That bought her two seconds while all three already in the room looked to see her shooting across the space.
"Petrificus Totalus!" Hermione screamed as quickly as she could. She landed in a huff on a very stunned Severus Snape. She quickly recovered and stood, wand outstretched to face the Dark Lord. Her whole body convulsed and her legs wobbled. Her lips trembled and her eyes watered in fear. She gulped down the large lump in her throat and stood firmly and definitely in front of the snake like man. "Stay away from my Professor."
Voldemort tilted his head curiously at the girl standing in front of him. "You defy me?" Voldemort reached out to Nigini and restored her to her original state. The snake looked confused and coiled herself tightly around her master.
"I do," Hermione said standing protectively over Severus. "I will stand for the innocent and defend those who cannot or refuse to defend themselves." Hermione huffed and fought with her fears and her defiance lent itself to her heroics.
"Tell me girl where is your coward friend?"
"Taking care of something," Hermione said unsure of what he was actually doing.
"Why is he not here if this is so important?"
"I took this on by myself," Hermione said.
"Are you sure you can handle it by yourself?" Voldemort asked.
"Yes," Hermione stood defiantly. "And I'm sure I can take at least one of you out," Hermione glanced at the snake coiled around his arm. Voldemort's eyes flashed with anger before he apparated away.
Hermione's shaky knees finally got the better of her and she fell to the floor shaking in terror. She began to hypervenalate and tears leaked from her eyes.
"Miss Granger," the soft voice came from behind her.
"Her-mio-ne," she said in fragmented trembles.
"Hermione," he whispered "why did you help me?"
"It's not yours," she said trying to control her still trembling body.
"What?" he asked.
"The wand he was going to kill you for. It isn't yours."
Hermione felt his eyes staring holes into the back of her head. "How did you know?" he asked. Hesitantly he reached for the shaking girl. He pulled her back into his arms and kept her close trying to calm the nervous girl.
"Harry told me about the night, Draco disarmed him," Hermione sighed and relaxed into his arms. "You make me feel safe," she confided.
"You just saved my life," he said sounding in shock. Hermione looked back at her once professor and lunged her lips to his.
