Ch.1
I had never been dreading my death. I knew it had to come sooner or later. I just never knew it would be so soon. But now, even as I could feel Luke's fingers around my neck. I knew I had it coming. Of course now, as I imagined I could have a future with Percy, would all this be happening. I strained to turn my head, just once, to see the boy I thought I would have everything with. Percy was laying unconcious on the dingy and dusty floor. His once shiny black hair was now streaked with dirt.
"Annabeth... Annabeth." He cried, clutching his arm where Luke had stuck a poisoned dagger into it. I felt so helpless, looking at him, and seeing spots in my eyes. I looked up at Luke. His once beautiful blue eyes were now cold and lifeless. His once beautiful face was now marred with the scar of the dragon. I knew my hair was matted and clumpy, but still his eyes held love in them. After everything we've been through, he was still the man I met. Us and the world, fending off monsters.
I looked around the floor for something, anything, to pierce that beautiful skin. Already, my vision was growing dark, and I couldn't breathe. Suddenly I heard a gasp, and Luke was pried off me. Above me stood the glowing figure of a girl. Only later would I realize who it was. Thalia took out her spear, and thrust it into Luke's stomach, sending lightning bolts all along his body. I massaged my throat, while Thalia killed Luke. I scrambled around, and crawled over to where Percy was. He was still clutching his arm and crying out my name.
Suddenly I heard a crash. I looked up and saw only rock. The boulder was aimed straight for my leg. It was falling from the ceiling and I knew that the noise from the fight had made it fallen. It didn't go in slow motion, like in the movies. Actually adrenaline had made it fall faster. I tried to scramble out of the way, but it was too late. It had fallen on my back, breaking my spine. I screamed, clawing at the floor. I couldn't move, pinned to the floor. Already, I could feel my life ebbing away. "Annabeth! Annabeth!" Percy was screaming, but faintly to my ears.
I closed my eyes and let the darkness engulf me. I just hoped Percy would make it out okay, and that I would not see him in the underworld. I hoped that he would find love again, and that he could have a future with someone else, even though I couldn't have one. opened my eyes and saw a fiery dungeon. The only water there was was shrouded in mist. A canoe broke through, and a figure. I knew who that was. "Charon." I stated. He smiled a hollow smile and held out his hand. I dropped a handful of drachmas into his chalky palm.
"Welcome aboard... Annabeth." He chuckled, and I climbed into the canoe. I looked back once more to where I had lain. And then I looked forward, to where my future had ceased...
