Disclaimer: While this game is based on my Nuzlocke playthrough of Leaf Green, I have taken certain...liberties with the characters, names and technology. Essentially, they're only the same on a very basic level. I might go to other regions too (up to you guys though). So without further ado: POKEMON, BEGIN!
Let 'er Rip
You know, I probably should have figured today wasn't going to be a good day when the first thing I saw was my little sister. "Rion, getupgetupgetupge-"
"If you keep talking, I'm going to throw you out the window. Now what is so important that-...hey, how did you get in here?" Her smile was probably the most devious thing I've ever seen. Supposedly between us, she's the nice one. Of course, I beg to differ. After a few moments, the smile faded and I couldn't see the little demon anymore. Now it was the nice face. I wanted to punch that face most days.
"Mom said Professor Oak wanted to see you. Something about a league challenge." Before she had completely finished the sentence I was already down the stairs and out the door. Well, I would have been out the door if someone hadn't been standing there, poised to knock. One moment passed. Then another.
"Well, uh, hi Reiven. What brings you here?" Dear old Reiven and I had been rivals for a long time. Friendly ones, mind you. Mostly. Kinda.
"You overslept, dumb-ass. Gramps is waiting for us, so hurry up." He turned around to leave, but looked back just long enough to say, "And by the way, put some pants on." I looked down, and sure enough, I had forgotten my pants. The worst part? I had even put my shoes on. That's what I get for getting too excited.
After the pants were found, Oak's lab was next. Reiven was already there, tapping his foot impatiently. He gestured towards three Pokeballs on a table to my right. "Ladies first," he said. Okay, sure, be an ass, Reiven. Not like you can do anything else. Oak was mysteriously silent. Normally he would have talked my ear off, but he looked tired. Each Pokemon was labeled. Charmander...Squirtle...Bulbasaur. Different scenarios whirled through my mind as I tried to decide. Reiven was telling me to hurry up, but the Professor shushed him.
Finally, my hand reached out and firmly grasped the Pokeball with Charmander. Reiven let out an exasperated sigh, and looked at the two left for all of three seconds before he grabbed Squirtle. The Professor suddenly straightened, as if he had woken up today just for this moment. "Boys," he began, "I didn't call you here just to give you some of my old Pokemon." He walked over to his desk and tried to open a drawer. Obviously stuck, he kicked the drawer with enough force to almost topple the desk. After that the drawer opened perfectly. He pulled out two small red devices. "This is why I called you both here. In case you didn't pay attention when I spoke to you last, these are Pokedexes. I'm sending you both out to give me data on every single Pokemon you can find. I've already okayed this with your mother, Rion, so don't worry." That was a relief. My mother is where my sister inherited her demonic anger. Oak smiled, and then spread his hands as if to say 'well, what are you waiting for?'
Reiven and I took one look at each other and struck a salute. Yeah, I know, it was kind of a corny thing to do, but I'll be damned if we didn't feel like soldiers for a few seconds. That was as long as the salute lasted before we both burst out laughing. Before I could turn around to leave, Reiven and I made eye contact. I knew that look. He wanted to battle. A smile crossed over both our faces. I spoke, and it felt like the beginning of the best chapter of my life, "Let's meet our new Pokemon, shall we?"
