A/N: This was written during one of my less interesting classes. I feel like the Tuvok/Janeway friendship is often overlooked in the series, so I just had to write a little something down. Reviews are appreciated.

A constant. A reliable presence.

Stoic. Logical.

Kathryn watched as Tuvok went though the systems at the tactical station with skill. His jaw was clenched, as it often was, showing his intense concentration. He was graceful in a way.

Kathryn smiled. He was the greatest support in her life.

He was significantly older than her and Kathryn loved the wisdom that he brought to her life. She didn't know how she would stay captain without his advice. Although she sometimes did not follow it (much to Tuvok's displeasure), she appreciated his willingness to help and knowing that he would always have her back.

Kathryn quickly snapped out of her reverie as she realised Tuvok was staring directly at her as she stood at the centre of the bridge just watching him. She blushed a deep red.

The edges of Tuvok's mouth moved up. Ever so subtly, he smirked. It was brief, a once in a lifetime moment. But she had witnessed it! Even to her, a smirk from Tuvok was a rarity.

Kathryn broke out into a glorious smile as she realised he found her staring humorous and not intrusive. Tuvok popped one eyebrow up mischievously then continued his work at his station. Kathryn continued to smile and went to sit in her chair. It was moments like these for Kathryn that made their friendship so worthwhile.

A friendship of respect, subtle humour and trust.

Often he had helped her with her dilemmas as Kathryn, not the captain, which she found admirable. He had helped her deal with the guilt of getting Voyager stranded in the Delta Quadrant. His words as her friend, and not her subordinate, were always logical but somewhat comforting. He understood the distinction between Kathryn and Captain. A distinction many people could not make.

"Captain, a ship is hailing us." Tuvok informed her.

They both slipped into professional mode. Janeway stood up and took a few steps forward clearing her head as she did so.

"On screen."

Kathryn's musings on Tuvok could wait for later. The Captain had business to attend to. And she knew that Tuvok would be by her side.

As Captain and Kathryn.
